Versus 1997 is a TOTAL CONVERSION QuakeC patch developed in alternate-1997, targeted for computers common in 1997. It is filled with realistically-retro qualities, development, features and humor. As "classic" as things get today.
This mod is a tribute to a golden era of modding of times past when DBZ, Final Fantasy, crappy zombie games and CS clones were not saturating the scene as it is today.
It is not a stand-alone game and it requires the registered version of Quake to play. It is also not open source Free Software.
Things targeted (as examples):
- Gooseman's infamous left-handed glow arms holding/reloading realistic guns
- Overuse of blue, inspired by TF maps
- Deluxe Paint skins
- Lots of skins and weapons
- A whole new episode (!)
- Play it the way you want to - remove pak1.pak to remove all unneccessary "TC" file replacement. Even play as an unaltered quakeguy with his old weapons vs the old monsters in the old maps with the new cosmetic enhancements.
