Install the mod into your main Dow II retribution folder. Readme file included with Credits and instructions.
Run either with Astartes.bat, or go to your Steam, go to Retribution, go to Properties, set launch options as "-modname Astartes" ,without the ""s.
I recommend setting graphics to Ultra high before installing or mod may crash.
Races , tactics, and units:
Space marines heroes all have a separate race attached.
Chapter commander is Adeptus Astartes, unlocking the contemporary 40k Space marines.
Legion commander is Legiones Astartes, unlocking the 30k era late Great Crusade Space marines.
Grey Knights commander is Daemonhunters, unlocking the Grey Knights.
IG heroes are the same:
Cadian commander unlocks the standard IG.
Krieg commander unlocks the Krieg IG. Not suppressible, but fire slower if more powefully with their lasguns.
Tau commander: Tau race, similar a bit to IG. Very weak in melee, but good at range due to all of its weapons being plasma or melta based.
General tips:
Space Marines and Chaos Marines are very powerful, but also expensive. Rushing them or not letting them tech up , outflanking them is a good idea.
As powerful as your standard marines are, beware, Tier 3 enemy units like Nobz can still easily wipe them out.
Eldar are really fast, but they are fragile. Use this to outmanoever the enemy.
Orks are tough, and cheap, coming in hordes. Ork squads gain more Health by levelups. Area of effect weapons are advised. Be warned, Ork ai usually likes to tech up as soon as possible and spam Battlewagons.
IG: Can do some decent ranged damage, but fragile and slow. Use tanks like Chimeras as a fire magnet to take fire away from your troops.
Tyranids: Cheapest and swarmiest, but vulnerable to vehicles so make sure to have a contingent of venom cannon carrying units to counter enemy tanks.
Try to avoid incoming artillery. Manticore and Skyray barrages can destroy even powerful units like Space marines or tanks.

great! will the 30K marines also feature ancient weaponry (volkites, grav guns, autocannons & rotor cannons for Devastators) or just a visual change?
If I can get models for the volkites, grav guns or rotors, they may. They already have autocannons, if they use the chaos model.
well rotary cannons are basically smaller assault cannons carried by terminators... I can make you a low poly model for the grav guns and volkites if you wish ^+ do you have a texturer?
Afraid not, but I appreciate the offer! I have to admit, volkites and grav guns would be very nice, though Rotor cannons seem just like a weaker Heavy bolter (They did not quite have the same punch as Assault cannons in the rules).
weaker than HB? So why would anyone use them? Anyway,if I create a set of volkite chargers and culverines, graviton gun and rad missile launchers (textures in dds), will you get them ingame and upload as update?
You can get grav guns in 7ed 40k now too
I think the rotor cannons had a weaker attack, but more attacks than the HB, thus better against hordes of weaker foes.
If the models work in game, sure I would gladly use them : ).

Is anyone else having download issues? Mine keeps stopping after about a minute into the DL, no matter what mirror I'm using. I've tried downloading other mods as well, both from here and Gamefront, and this is the only mod I'm having this issue with, so I question if it is a network error on my end (although I could well be wrong). Any help would be much appreciated.
I sit corrected. Now all of my Moddb and Gamefront Dl's are not working. I apologize. I'll see myself to the nearest Commisariat location.
I should upload it onto secondary download though, just for the sake of multiple redundancy, beloved by the Omnissiah.
I did manage to get the mod (flash drives are wonderful things) and as expected, it was glorious and of great service to the Emprah.

What do you mean?
The speed of unit movement?
The speed at which units die at ?
The speed at which units are built?
The move and fire speed. they were insanely increased by the patch.
Then, unit die extremely quickly !
I don't even have time to push X to retreat, my units die before.
Especially the tyranides :(
Some units do die easier, like gaunts are meant as cannon fodder.
Warriors should have some staying power though.
I am considering making AOE and heavy weapons fire slower.
Yes, but even heavy infantry and vehicules dies extremely quickly (in terms of second).
Flamethrower, autocanon, tyranides mines launcher and heavy bolter squad litterally obliterate any unit in 0.3s.
I approve that idea, ' like to see units fire for some time and niot just boom everyone is dead XD
I like the mod but a lot of text isn't shown in my game and I just see "$0000000 no range" instead :(
I bet you don't have your game in English.
Search in the steam file, and go in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dawn of War II - Retribution\GameAssets\Locale\English
Put all the files in the locale\YOUR LANGUAGE

I also experience this bug, where your game crashes every time you want to play as SM,. Now, I opened my warnings.log to see what happened and saw it had some kind of problems loading textures.
This may sound illogic but setting my graphics on Ultra fixed it (I had it as low as possible before, as my rig is pretty low standard)
I'm going to fiddle around with my settings some more and try to find out which specific settings are causing this. Then I'll come back here and tell you ;)

I have moved the Astartes_1.0_.7z-file into my DoW 3 Retribution-folder and written -modname Astartes into my launch options in Steam. The game either crashes or the unit skins don't change, ie. the mod doesn't activate.
Can you help me please? I have changed the graphics to ultra high everywhere.... I'm not a computer genius, so if you have advice, you pretty much have to walk me through it; thanks in advance! :)
Did you unpack the 7.z file, which is a compressed archive like Zip?
when there is a release? and in what a difference between gamma and version 1.0 why gamma to weigh more than version 1.0?
Release 1.2 is coming soon. I sometimes cut duplicated assets to trim down file size.

mod is great but is un useable in multiplayer, when i or a buddy go to join eachothers game, it just comes up as UNKNOWN_JOINEVENT and refuses to alow us to join eachothers game
Does not work, perhaps only original game by steam, I do not steam and will not spend 50real to test this mod, please launch version for everyone to play, much will have more players, see example FA community forever, Edain Mod, Command Conquer General among others ....
I'm having an issue running the batch file to play the mod as all I get is: Windows cannot find '\steam.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
I know this is an issue with having steam on another drive, I just don't know what to edit in the batch file to get it running. I've tried setting launch options to -modname Astartes, when I try running the game with this it just brings up the debug error crap.
If anyone could tell me what to edit in the batch file that'd be great. Steam is installed on my D drive if that helps.

Hi man! I have some cuestions and/or sugestions (sorry for my bad english, im a foreigner), and some ideas too:
*Wy you dont use the Tau units voices of DOW 1 in your MOD?
*Wy you dont use the Krieg units voices of the DLC and his unit portraits too? also, you can use the Krieg lasgun pattern and uniform of the DLC, i think they are more preaty. I use The Krieg Granadiers that i found in the Comunity Patch MOD in my vanilla and is perfect.
* Wy you dont use the Chaos Lords skins Of some important Warbands (like the Nigth Lords of Shuma, Death Guards, etc)?
* In the Legion Astartes some of the Legionaries have black armours wile the rest have the color of their army. (I dont know if that is a bug in my computer or what).
* The aura of the wings of the Exalted Autarc are visible in my game (looks awful man).
* The Angelos portrait of the Captain is awful man XD
* I sugest that you look into shuma´s page for some more portraits...

Read the readme please. Put the texture settings on Ultra!
