UT Space Battle is a game mod for UT3 and UT2004 which comprises a space combat simulation which aims primarily to explore innovative game play through the use of unconventional aspects that distinguish it from existing shooters and strategy games. Gamplay for both UT2004 and UT3 is the same, with only graphical differences. The mod is still in alpha stage and currently does not have much in the way of polish or documentation. However, it is functional and may be of interest to those wishing to follow the progress of the mod. Because it is in alpha stage there may be bugs cropping up in each new release and game balance may shift from release to release. See also the UT2004 page for UT2004 specific media.

A new snapshot of the current state of development has been uploaded. Also, the map SP-Preload, for the UT2004 version, has been uploaded.

A new version is now available for download. This is still an early Alpha version but should show some strides from the last upload.

There have been improvements to special effects and HUD on both the UT2004 and UT3 versions. Most noticeable is the braces now showing on the HUD which allow you to more easily determine what direction your ship is facing relative to your desired rotation. The improvement makes it significantly easier to see whether or not you are lined up in Dogfight.

An alteration has also been made to the controls in free flight. A mode has been added which is similar to "inertial control" systems on other space shooters. Basically in this mode, while in free flight, your ship will manuever to try to bring your ship to it's current speed (in any direction), plus your desired acceleration, heading in the direction of your desired rotation. Currently this is the default and there is no way to "toggle" the mode but that capability should be added soon. The inertial control I find generally to be easier to handle in free flight, for most situations.

This change doesn't affect the AI which normally will do more complex manuevers than are readily possible under manual control.

Also, there is another ship in the build order which I am currently undecided about. I noticed that the shock beams were much more effective on turrets then they are on fixed mounts, so I created a small gunship, smaller than the current light gunship, which would be able to somewhat keep up with fighters and provide turret support in close. The performance of the new ship has been a little lackluster though so that ship may not stay.

Also, SP-Preload (a map for UT2004) has been added. This map was available on the SourceForge site before but I forgot to upload it here.
