More crashes squashed! The LAN Systems are now playable, improved scaling and text truncation and optimized some screens that cause micro-freezes whenever entering and exiting them.
NOTE: Do take in mind, that some changes need a new user created and the options file removed!
Installation
Inside the archive you'll find the UplinkOS executable, its resource files and the ReadMe.
In case you're like me and you don't read ReadMes, here's the installation instructions:
- Of course, you'll need the STEAM version of the game.
- After downloading the Mod, unzip it into a place of your choice.
- Go to Uplink's installation folder. In STEAM's case, the default is: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Uplink
- Copy the contents of the Mod's zip file into this folder.
- Go to the "users" folder. Back-up & move/delete all the files here.
- Back-up the original Uplink.exe.
- Rename UplinkOS.exe to Uplink.exe.
- Now just run Uplink from the STEAM interface and your ready to start hacking!
This is a BETA so you will encounter some bugs that I missed (especially in the later parts of the game where I didn't test as often as I should have). In case you encounter something please make a screenshot and post about it in the BUGS forum.

- Removed the grab marks from all apps and added pass-through functionality to their buttons to make dragging easier
- Fixed a bug where the Map became unresponsive if it was opened during a disconnect
- Fixed a bug where deleting an E-Mail would not immediately do so
- Fixed a bug in the Apps Menu to update with the most recent purchase
- Made the Trace_Tracker sounds a bit louder
- Removed the alert when deleting an empty note
- Made the last user on the Main Menu update correctly when removing a user
- Made the InterNIC & Uplink Internal links un-removable on the player's bookmarks screen
- Added hotkeys for the links context-menu commands
- Fixed the server Security screen
- Fixed a missing Security screen icon
- Removed 4:3 resolutions from the options menus
- Fixed the Full Screen option to correctly detect the monitor's resolution
- Fixed a bug where inactive buttons still received input
- Fixed a bug which alowed the Tab hotkeys to jump to inactive text fields
- Added captions to the Stock/Bank account creaion fields
- Added a prompt to stop the player from purchasing the same thing twice
- Fixed the links from being visible on the map after removal
- Fixed a bug where while bouncing, hitting the Load button made the connection unresponsive

- Changed the Sample LAN map coordinates to not be outside of the map

when i delete one logfile, all logs are gone and game crashes

Still getting the "username already taken" bug when creating bank accounts. Utilizing banks is pretty integral to my Uplink gameplay style, so I keep my fingers crossed with every new release of Uplink OS. ;)

A couple other things I've noticed, though... 1.) Trying to delete an email (specifically a 'mission accomplished' email--not sure about others--immediately crashes the game). 2.) When I just tried to delete multiple logs on a server, some of them apparently aren't staying deleted...? For example, if I right-click-delete four logs (with a v4 log deleter), wait for all of the deletes to finish, then back out to server's main menu, then go back into logs section AGAIN, the first log I deleted will still be gone, but the other three will have mysteriously returned. I'd need to do more testing to narrow down the problem, but it seems like a sneaky one! ;)
I'm happy it worked out in the end with the bank transfers!

No worries; as eager I am to play a perfect, polished version of Uplink OS, I know what a monstrously complicated undertaking it must be. Thanks for putting so much time and work into this project! :)
Love what you're doing here, keep it up! This game made me feel like a hacker when I was young, hopefully with this UI refresh my nephew will get that same immersion too!

My game crashed when i deleted a "congratulations" email.
Also for the sake of being more comfortable, would be nice if you wouldn't need to click on the console space for typing every time after hitting enter.
Yes, it actually crashes when deleting the first (or only) mail in the list, while viewing it. It will be fixed in v094.

I have a Question. How is it possible to use the Gateway Self Destruct. I have installed but can't activate. Also i don't know how to use the Gateway Motion Sensor. Thx for helping.
Those are actually bugs. They should be active Apps instead of passive. Will fix in v094 :)
Few bugs I encoutered with in this version:
- World map overlaps the mail window.
- Game stop working when you delete email with this "X" button inside
- I can't choose resolution of game, just can click "Full Screen" [My res is 1900x1080
- There are problems with resolution of text inside the game [Screen 1,2]
- Decypher works much slower than in normal Uplink!
* 3,0 on Trinity, 8gb/s internet, 660 GHZ takes 21 sec. to crack[Uplink]
* 3,0 on Trinity, 8gb/s internet, 660 GHZ takes 1 min 12 sec. to crack[Uplink OS]
- Decypher don't work quicker if we change speed of game, works same on slow and quick game mode.
I have idea to add "Disconnect" button to the middle of space between "Save" and "Connect" Button [Screen 3]

Would it be possible to save everytime a mission is completed, so that when the game crashes, I won't suffer such a huge setback? I just lost 10.000c!

Firstly let me say that i think this Mod is fantastic. I have never really been able to get into Uplink because it's sort of fiddly and the UI is very hard to see/navigate playing from the couch but this mod fixes all that and makes it feel like a much more modern game, which I will finally get to enjoy!
Unfortunately when upgrading from 0.91 to 0.93, both the Randomizer and Tracer HUD items were lost (those were the only two I had) which is the nature of betas i know, but still worth checking out maybe to prevent it happening again.
The z-order of the items is a bit messed up as people have mentioned, with the map being on top of the mail list which makes it hard to drag the mail list, and the notification toasts appearing behind the mail list which I don't think was the case previously.
I also had a crash deleting an email which strangely did not reset the time/date in the game but did still have me waiting 24 hours for a cpu upgrade, so it was originally scheduled for Tuesday but due to the crash it happened 24 hours later on Wednesday.
You should start a new game with each Beta release unless stated otherwise.
Just possibly found another bug, i was hacking into a server using the route randomizer, and normally the trace on that server takes 2-3 minutes, but this time it took about 20 seconds and I ended up with Game Over :( The only thing I did differently was after getting my random route the previous time I connected to it, i saved it, and then reloaded it and used it that way. So i think it's possible that if a randomized route is saved then it doesn't reload properly, even though visibly it looked fine.
marcdoyle I think some servers can trace you faster if you reconnect to them just after disconnecting, while using the same route. I remember the trace tracker beeping really fast sometimes just as I connected to a server and that was the reason.
Yeah that does makes sense i guess, they might have already traced most of the route the previous time, but i think in this instance that was a red herring. I had just gone into the console as i found out i needed to delete the entire usr folder to pass a mission instead of deleting each file manually (which took me over an hour btw due to the log file bug lol) and i typed help to see the commands, then typed dir to do a directory listing and that's when it happened. I've seen on the forum that typing commands when the line is not highlighted can cause the game to speed up if you type one of the hotkeys so i assume the "r" key speeds up time or something
You are correct, there's some false positive bugs being reported, that are actually the hotkey's doing. I've since changed the game speed keys and will be available in v094 :)
Interested to know on what code platform the original source code is built on is it c++? And how much would it cost to get a copy of the source from the creators?
Yup, C++. It was 40$ when I got it, off their site (it was also in a Humble Bundle). Although, they changed their site and I couldn't find the source anymore :/
I would like to suggest something regarding the Randomizer: only randomize after a given node. For example, I create a route from my gateway to InterNIC, after that I click on Randomize to get a random route starting from InterNIC.
Mmmmm I don't really see how this would help someone. You actually need to know where you're going, do you not?

My antivirus keeps quarantining the file saying a Trojan is inside. Any idea why?
