Religion becomes forbidden and whoever practises it gets prosecuted. Not everybody agrees with this new world order so some kept the sacred books safe because, in their eyes, this is history. Trying to safeguard these religious books isn't an easy job as the modern world have high technological devices that is unmatchable with what the religious people have. It turned this way as the people wanted world peace. And as religion has caused a lot of wars, eliminating religion was, so they thought, the best way to eliminate having a new war.
