It's been a while since we had anything happen with this mod that we could really share and it is taking me a lot longer to get things worked out than with the first mod, BUT i think i can say some good progress has been made and i finally feel that im getting a freespace feel in the gameplay.

That, of course, is my lone opinion. So i am going to release a raw demo of the mod with only the GTA + (sins races) to get some feedback and give me time to get the other races up to speed. The release will be limited in terms of abilities and tech to research and still needs lots of finishing work on UI textures, balancing, voices, etc, but will give players a feel for where this is going and hopefully help to make it a better experience.

here is one download link and it should be up on moddb soon.

You definitely want to attain permission from Volition then, there are those in the UaW community that came from much stricter no porting communities that will tear and flame your mod apart if you don't. Good Luck with this mods. The old exporter will work, but why not wait 2 weeks for the new one with all the enhanced features and plus a full set of dx9 and dx10 shaders?

Actually, Volition made Freespace 2 open source, and the game is distributed for free. You can check out the community at

That's really cool, guess that means you already have permission :)

Merry Christmas! Glad to see another mod for UaW!

One of your screenshots, you have a unit ingame I think. Are you using the Foc shaders? If you are it would explain the relative dullness, of the texture.
JoJ is waiting for the mod tools as well because we quickly discovered the relative restrictions on modding capabilities till the tools are out.

Who modeled the models btw?

The shaders on the models in that picture are from FoC, yes. The UAW ones work on some of the model, but then on the rest of it, you see the generic texture. If you look closely, you can see dark and odd looking spots on the models in that picture. That's the generic texture. Aside from that, I didn't really spend much time on tweaking the shader settings as of yet. I just wanted to see if the old exporter would work. The models and textures are from the original Freespace 2 game made by Volition. They aren't the greatest for this game, but it's either those, or super high-poly ones, which wouldn't work well for what I'm planning to do. I could use those for the cap ships, but not for the fighters.
