"Umbra Pax" a Total Conversion for Half-Life2.
Futuristic Tactical First Person Shooter.
By now you are likely thinking:"What does Umbra Pax meen?"
In latin Umbra meens shadow and Pax meens peace.
Also "Umbra" is part of the shadow caused by an eclipse:
From here: Inconstantmoon.com
"The Sun is the only body in the solar system which shines with its own light. All of the others, including the Earth and Moon, reflect the Sun's light. They also cast shadows, and when, in the course of their orbits, the Moon's shadow falls on the Earth, or vice versa, it is known as an eclipse.
There are two parts to these shadows. The umbra is a central cone of darkness which tapers away from the Earth or Moon, whilst the penumbra is an outer cone of partial shadow which diverges instead of tapering."
This fits in well with the current game setting as there has been a long period of peace that is now about to be shattered or "over shadowed" if you will.
Also in there is: "The zone covered by the umbra is called the path of totality"
We dont want to reveal too much just yet but here is some basic information.
Note: It is subject to change.
Besides having the Source Engines powerful physics engine our project will have the following "Key Features":
- Squad based tactical combat.
Lead a squad of elite marines from your command position or enter the battlefield as a grunt.
No more “one man vs. the world” gameplay.
- "Tactical Command" view.
A “Top down” RTS style view of the battlefield. Use your overview to issue commands to your troops in a typical RTS style. It is purely a tactical tool. No resource management.
- Power Armour Chassis.
A series of High-tech personal body armour suits.
Advanced electronics, life support and hydraulics systems protected by layers of titanium and a top secrete material.
- Futuristic weaponry
Utilise powerful futuristic weapon systems based on scientific fact.
Example: Lasers do not make “phiiiew” sounds.
- Vehicles.
Multiple player controllable vehicles.
- Single player campaign.
- Co-operative campaign mode
The single player campaign will be designed with co-op in mind.
- Multiplayer
Multiplayer game modes:
- Deathmatch: Every player for himself. Destroy all other players.
- Assault: “Team A” must destroy a building or an object. “Team B” must prevent this. Roles are swapped after a round ends.
- Team Survivor: Stay alive and eliminate the enemy team. The object is to kill all the enemies while your own team must have at least 1 survivor. There is no respawning until a round ends.
- Retrieval: “Team A” must retrieve an object from “Team B's” base and return it to the “Team A” base of operations. “Team B” must also try to retrieve an object from “Team A’s” base. This is a classic CTF style game mode.
- Battle: Teams must capture and hold certain points on the map. The battle ends when one team controls all points or when time runs out. If time runs out the team that has captured most points wins.
Co-op:
- Bug Hunt: Clear an area of an alien or mutated animal infestation.
- Last Stand: Players must band together to fend off wave after wave of alien and enemy forces. Each wave the enemies grow in numbers and strength. All players respawn as long as at least one player survives an attack wave.

Game Setting:
The setting for the game is a somewhat dark future somewhere around the year 2095AD.
Visual style (cities and urban areas) is somewhere between “Blade Runner”, ”Demolition Man”, “Minority Report” and the “Final Fantasy” movie. Animated billboards and other means of advertising are everywhere. High-tech vehicles and appliances are abundant.
Multinational corporations seem to rule the world and there is a strong military presence.
A small-scale nuclear war (over 100 years ago) has made some areas uninhabitable for human beings.
Shield generators that block radiation and cancer causing UV beams (due to multiple holes in the ozone layer) from our sun protect some of the major cities.
Radiation (and other types of pollution) in some areas outside of the shielded cities has caused mutation of the local wildlife.
A handful of Space stations orbit Earth.
There is also a base on the moon.
Mars is being colonized after a lengthy “Terraformation” process. (The same process is being implemented on Earth to save our planets thinning atmosphere. Results are slow but steady.)
Signs of primitive life on Mars have been uncovered.
It is a time of relative peace. It has been a very long time since a full-scale war has erupted.
However with resources on Earth running low and ownership of Mars in dispute many governments and corporations are showing signs of hostility.
There are fanatical religious groups and Anarchistic movements that occasionally plan attacks on official installations or production plants.
The United Nations has expanded its scope to include large corporations as members and is now known as “The organisation of United Nations and Corporations” or “UNC”.
To help keep law and order “U.N.C.” has created a rapid reaction force able to deploy to any spot on our planet or moon within short notice. The elite of this force is called: “Mechanised Assault Corps”.
“MAC” uses the latest weaponry and personal body armour. They deploy via high-speed drop ships.
A UNC base on Mars is being planned.
In many ways it is a “classic” sci-fi setting.

I am proud to announce that we are in pre-development on a Total Conversion for “Half-Life 2” named “Umbra Pax”.
“Umbra Pax” is a First Person Shooter set in the future with focus on tactical squad-based combat.
Please view our team website at: www.stormforge.dk
There you can find some basic information and some Concept Art.
We have a lot more done behind the scenes but we do not want to spill all our beans at once.
We will have a dedicated website for “Umbra Pax” in the near future. Here we will have a lot more information about the game and a look at some renders.
Due to the to size of our rather ambitious project we are still taking applications to join our team. What we need the most are skilled Texture artists and Animators.
People interested in joining our team should send an e-mail to rrokamp@stormforge.dk
Please state area of expertise and references to past work (if any).
Also if people would like to support us then the best way is to signup on our forum.
