Ultimate Empire at War is a conversion of Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. It aims to include four eras of Star Wars history: the Age of the Old Republic, the Clone Wars, the Galactic Civil War, and the Dawn of the New Republic in an re-created game that is more engaging on both the tactical and strategic level, enhancing gameplay and deepening it, as well as overhauling the graphics in the game. In short - EaW the way it was meant to be - spanning Star Wars history in a deeply strategic game with high quality graphics and challenging gameplay.

Good evening, mentlegen.

This is a brief news post, and I won't be releasing any new media with it, but given the activity so far this month I think it's appropriate to give a bulletin about UEaW.

Point of Interest 1: Server move

You may have noticed that our website is no longer just ridiculously slow or suffering from server time-outs, but rather not there at all, with your browser unable to find the server at all. This is actually good news, because it means we are migrating to a new server that will, fingers crossed, mean fast and virtually flawless operation both for the public website and the mod's svn work system.

We estimate that, all going well, our new server and with it our website and forums will be available again in 2-3 days, and will post a notification when they are back online.

Point of Interest 2: Brief update:

UEaW is now progressing rather well, despite the problems with the server and our mod svn system. In highlights:

  • The E3 Galactic Civil War is now virtually complete to a stage when it could be fully beta-tested (bear in mind nothing remains of the vanilla EaW Galactic Civil War; so this era required just as much and in some cases more work than the other eras) - which is not only brilliant news in itself, but also provides a model for the balancing and set-up of the other 3 eras which will make their own completion much faster.
  • The new GUI is largely complete and functioning. I won't say too much because it's meant to be a brand new feature of the mod, but essentially it's designed to reduce the space the GUI uses on screen and make the game area itself more accessible.
  • Shimrra is flying along with the new Galactic Conquest AI at a rate that should see it completed to core functionality within the next few weeks, despite his academic workload.

Point of Interest 3: Any Other Business

Did you know, the largest thing a blue whale could swallow is a melon? Also, 42 is the meaning of life, the universe and everything. Onto a more pertinent matter:

Earlier this summer, we floated a community maps project as an idea, and got a reasonable response to it. To concisely explain it - since we don't have the forum thread to link you to at the moment:

It was proposed that whilst our mapping department's maps would be included for skirmishes in the 'official maps' section, we could better utilise the 'custom maps' section by replacing it with a 'community maps' section, in which any fan-submitted maps could be officially supported. Naturally we're only talking about space maps, given the space-only content of V1.

Why, you ask, would we make or give you our maps? Well, it's not like we'd be asking for them exclusively, or asking people to make new maps for us if they didn't want to. If you have any existing space skirmish maps, however, that you'd like to see compatible with UEaW for those who play the mod to use, we'd be delighted to support them. A tranche of our favourites would be included with the core release of V1, and others would be available in addon packs.

Well, what's in it for contributors? Well, apart from a warm fuzzy feeling inside as UEaW players appreciate your fully credited maps, those who have contributed multiple good maps or whose maps are fan favourites will get official contributor status - which, apart from love and adoration, a big glowy 'C' and a special rank on our forums, will also get their own easter egg hero unit in game! Incidentally, any Contributor who so wished to could also sign on as a mapper for V2 without going through the usual application procedures.

If this scheme proves to have interest, we'll be releasing a set of mapping tools; namely unique markers for UEaW V1 structures and units to allow greater map customisation that will be compatible.

On a final note, I just found out that I passed my first year of medical school and am now officially into my second year of medical education, so I'm a bit happy.

Cheers

Doktor von Wer (LTCC)

So V1 consists of only Space related stuff?

Any chance of informing us who have followed for years now what you've added to the space part alone??

Also V2 will be the land part right?

Yes, this has been mentioned dozens upon dozens of times for approximately the last 3 and a half years.

If you, like so many who ask foolish questions about 'why can't I find the eras in V0.4' haven't bothered to read the numerous news posts and Q&As, then that's your problem.

whoa dude i've read them but with your website in limbo and this spot not having much information it would be nice to have something, plus I played that beta version or test version that you released years ago.

Besides I wanted clarification because like I said above your website hasn't been working properly

Would it be that hard to do an update on this website on what features V1 is bringing? I am really looking forward to the no pun intended but Ultimate Empire at War mod but being berated like that doesn't sit to well with me but you wouldnt care about that

If you berate someone, you should expect to receive beratement back; except maybe if you shout down the phone at your bank or insurance provider who'll remain pleasant to keep your custom. We're not a service and you're not our customer, so if you have a go at me or the team, we'll probably snarl back. So long as we both understand that, we'll get along fine.

I shall be posting a features article soon, especially for you.

thankyou but I am concerned now about how I berated you?

the only thing that comes close to what could perceived as me berating you and your team was this line

"Any chance of informing us who have followed for years now what you've added to the space part alone??"

It was only an innocent plee for a comprehensive list of units and new features added to the game, not a stab at your work ethics or the mod
