News - February to Early March


It is time to let the public know that the mod is very, very close to its release. At this stage, the UA mod team is hoping to do something special because of it. Within this month or March (at the worst possible scenario), the second to the last alpha mod internal versions of the mod and so on will be caught on video and displayed to the public as we are in definite need of public feedback, and definitely some finely tuned views coming in. We will not mention where they are or where they will get posted, so if you want to see live videos of "The Hunt Begins" public videos, then it is up to you to find them! xD Note that they will be posted at random times with continuous slow or fast updates and at no estimated time of arrival. :D

But here is the bad news. It may be or may not be (depending on the audience) a 1.74 patch. The grand release of 2015 (The Hunt Begins) is close to release, that, making a patch for something that will only last like 15-40 days seems like a good effort to be placed within the grand release itself. Avoiding the confusion of the difference between what 1.74 is compared to "The Hunt Begins" would be good, too, but it is up to you guys if you want to deal with the balances of 1.73 versions until "The Hunt Begins" is released. I'm not saying 1.74 patch is cancelled, I'm saying 1.74 patch could be cancelled if the audience just wants THB and if the team agrees to stick with THB also. Up to you guys! Do you want a 1.74 patch or wait a bit longer?

A gist of what we can promise you THB will bring:

  • Inquisition Daemonhunters
  • Chaos Daemons
  • New advanced AI for all races, including but not limited to: improved competence and for some races, tactics the player may not expect.
  • AI relic unit and titan fielding error is fixed

  • More strategies will be applied to all AI after the THB releases (patches as there is not enough time)

  • Less AI city building (less structures fielded until they get loads of resources)

  • All other factions receive greater and better polish better than 1.73 version factions

  • More encouragement of capturing Strategic Points + Critical Locations especially

  • Changed up and fixed main mod theme
  • New extended gameplay
  • Less spamming of relic units and titans
  • Elite units cost more, especially more required population

  • More winconditions

Now let us talk about the THB release:

THB stands for "The Hunt Begins". It is a grand release of 2015, not a patch, and the version number will be much different than 1.74, we're talking around version 1.8. The Hunt Begins is all about the Inquisition Daemonhunt versus the evil and twisted Chaos Daemons! All factions will receive new content, and there will be so much added to it, that took us over a year (almost) to achieve.

We know we said that THB would not take too long to get released, but fortunately, it is another 1.73 release as it is BIG, and even includes two new factions to play! All races were further polished and made nicely, plus what THB will bring is pretty much finished skirmish and is the last and final skirmish overhaul. It is official.

Version 1.73 was supposed to be skirmish overhaul and final, but then over time, we realized the flaws of most factions, and so THB revamps them to an all new and fun style. We know you will like all factions, at least better than 1.73, and we hope to continue the campaign after this! :D So THB release, full skirmish overhaul with two new factions. FUN! NExt grand release afterwords? Campaign and stuff. We'll see how it goes.

Keep in mind THB grand release will not be perfect. There will be bugs to fix afterwords like 1.73 release, and we hope to continuously patch it and patch it just like 1.73 versions. Only this time, you guys will have everything, so whatever we offer, you guys get immediately! :D

We cannot wait to see the THB release at last! Sorry it took us a while to post the news.

Noh! Not softonic! That site has the nasty habit of installer all kinds of extra crap (see: useless browser toolbars, mostly) along with the "free" stuff they offer. Added to the fact each and every one of their installers is a downloader, not an offline-capable installer.
Get stuff from Softpedia.com and/or Filehippo.com they're MUCH more reliable and they give ya the original installer data, nothing more, no surprises.

The daemons race is not available until the release of 1.73 they are being improved and so are disabled in UA:
"- Daemons are restricted in the mod as of 1.72 and 1.72.7! They are getting a major revamp in version 1.73!"

hello.

I am having a bit of a problem. My game crashes when it loads the main menu. I insert disc and wait for it to load, it reaches the loading screen after the cut scene, then it crashes. I have a clean game with the latest UA version 1.72.5, no other mods installed. I downloaded two times form two different mirrors. Can somebody please help me?

I assume that you've played possibly the new races expansion before and the game is still set to that mod. Now that you've installed the new version you might've introduced some kind of new error (missing external race assetts? Did you install the latest Daemons Mod?) and now that game crashes since it cannot activate the game anymore.

In order to get your DoW start again for the sakes of error hunting you go to your main Soulstorm directory and search for a file called "local.ini" in there is a line called "currentmoddc=[Your last played mod name]". You'll need to change that so it looks like this
"currentmoddc=DXP" after that save the open local.ini file and restart the game. It should start now in vanilla again and you can select any mods to play from there again.

Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately, i canĀ“t find the "local.ini" file, and I did a search for it in the soulstorm directory and manually look for it. Could this be the problem?

In a batch file and run it from your soulstorm directory,

Alternately in the shortcut for Soulstorm:

"C:\games\THQ\Dawn of War - Soulstorm\Soulstorm.exe -modname UltimateApocalypse"
Note what you see after the soulstorm.exe, not before.
You might want to check this structure with a google search, :)

Can you upload your warnings.log from right after a crash?
Actually, just the last few lines (say, 20-ish) will do. You can open warning.log with Notepad. If posting the lines directly, try using something like Pastebin.com to not make a chunk-o-text comment ;P
These lines should point at the reason of the crash.
Without this info (or at least a bit more detail), I'm limited to wild guesses.

According to your warnings.log, the file space_marine_squad_reaver_titan.rgd is broken somehow. Normally this is a "just reinstall the mod" kind of issue. But reinstalling that much data for a single file would be rather wasteful, so I uploaded a fix specifically for your problem Mediafire.com
Simply apply it as you would with a regular patch :)

If you keep getting crashes at start, then there's a good chance many more files are corrupted, so there you would have to re-download (there's a very small chance your download got broken) and reinstall the 1.72.7 patch.

I found the problem, its just happening on this 1 map that I has got a few days ago so I think that map does not support the mod or something.

I'll be curious: What map is it? If it crashes with UA it most likely is because it includes custom SCaR code (which is normally balanced and set up for vanilla Soulstorm).
Which also means you can play that map without that crash if you rename its corresponding .scar file (or move it, or erase it), so it's not loaded.
At least the of course, the good thing about that map was precisely the in-game SCaR-coded events...
