January News - 1.86



So to update everyone of you with version 1.86, version 1.86 will be fully reworked by Thudmeizer, a veteran modder from the DOW Community who is ultimately stabilizing the entire mod completely with optimization fixes. So this is huge! Until he gets done, then 1.86 will be released and we hope to release 1.86 in consecutive phases/patches.

1.85.5 does not work without new races!

1.85.5 has 4 consecutive issues that should not be played as standalone. UA THB New Races is required to play 1.85.5, otherwise you WILL crash to desktop upon game startup. These four issues contain:

A required ability child within Chaos Daemons mod.

A required research within Chaos Daemons mod.

A required weapon within Inquisition Daemonhunters mod.

Icons used by the Chaplain Terminator in IDH mod.

These will get fixed as first priority. Priority 2 will be fixing the texture errors of the Necrons/Dark Eldar, and then finally at last the Ork Ouchy Turret upgrade when firing weapon. TONS of fixes will be made by Thudmeizer. Then after that initial release, the ai will be improved one by one until it can no more.

Hey guys! Loving the mod, I've been waiting eagerly for the return of the Inquisitors & Daemons for some time now. I'm going to flip when they come out. Keep up the good work, and I wish you all the best. Now, I noticed something when playing with the Tau. I understand that titan units are supposed to be powerfull and what not, but isn't the Mantra a tad bit overpowered? I mean, since it's an aircraft, melee is not an option when it comes to taking it down, and range weapons don't seem to do any good too. Now, it doesn't destroy enemy troops, it basically mows them down. I mean, after few seconds entire units are devasted in its wake. Is this meant to happen or is this an issue? Can't complain really, it saved my base a few times!

Manta... yes it is a slight issue. Overpowered and will be "fixed" in 1.73.9. Like many (good) Tau changes.

What i noticed about this mod since 1.73 came out is that the major problems are multiplayer glitches. I am playing UA for year now and since steam is not supporting mods, we are playing soulstorm on tunngle. There were a lot of glitches that happened just because tau or sob were in game or some fatal scar errors and i hope that it will all be fixed when UA THB comes out.

Next thing that a lot of people here noticed is OP tau. I play tau and they are my favourite race but seriously... I'm more scared of a single tau attack then army of necrons + the whole tau strategy now is a massive battlesuit army. Kroot and vehicles are extinct. It would be good for gameplay that tau have air caste orbital abilities in one panel like tyranids or dark eldar rather than having bombardment on ethereal, orca transport only when you build a ship or for revealing a part of map i need to find tower and then reveal. It would be easier to have one panel for those abilities.

what would critical locations look like with add ons?
what if there is an option to choose name and model for a commander?
imagine a map for more than 8 players
these are just few ideas that i came up with untill now

UA team made this game so epic and they are not paid for that and i cant even say how much i am thankfull for that :D
unlike relic that didnt make dow game for 3 years now. im afraid that dow 3 is going to be commercial ****** game that they will make just because they know how much we want it...

Yep, for next version 1.73.9, you'll find the Tau to be a lot more balanced. But not only battlesuits will find changes... it requires an overhaul and it is no simple answer to state. And no we are not Tau lovers. :p

Critical locations look like? I do not understand. No names for commanders, people, many, do not like it that way and unfortunately, there are no 9+ maps to ever be made in DOW, due to DOW engine.

But thanks for your reply. Balance changes and fixes conversations should though be placed in the forums section under feedback as it is more in depth. :)

About the critical locations, I would like if it could be built a listening point, but more like a little fortress, giving more sight and having more defense. So capturing critical locations and maintaining it, would be a great reward. Dont know if this could be achieved.

The original objective of Relic with critical positions was precisely avoid that players fortified the area too much thus preventing that players simply built huge amounts of turrets around a critical position to maintain it. Critical positions are meant to change players with relative ease in what relates to static defenses. Don't if going the opposite way (turning them into super fortresses) would introduce variety gameplay wise. Afterall you would be fortifying every capturable point as much as you could (supposing you are the type of player who makes heavy defensive positions based on buildings) turning the defense of map control into a matter of "who built the first super fortress in the critical position" instead of a well planned set of attacks and defensive operations as required.

Yep, im that type of player xD. You are correct about that, maybe changing it to unlock a unit of penultimate tier? Just to add a little more effect to the game, not in a way of static defense, maybe nor unlocking X unit, but adding something unique, don't know.

Changing specials part of the game is difficult :S
