Whelp. I suppose I can ask Leonard to retexture her face because of legal issues...

Otherwise I'm very disappointed we can't use this. Thanks for saying something.

I'm redoing the face, it's a mandatory part. This is an alpha version of the model.

Thing is though:
GW is crazy about copyrights, I've seen them go after a Men of War mod because of the name alone. Personally I don't want to see this mod go under for something as stupid as that

Then the case. Lord_Doofus you're not afraid to use them, use. But if you do not want, then do not. But for others will say this - it is full of mods that use the model of DOW 2 ... Only now I do not see any that would be closed due to copyright infringement.

Well, it depends. Do you know if the model was directly taken from Space Marine, or was the model just inspired by/based on Mira?

GreenScorpion Oct 14 2013, 9:28am replied:

It was taken from SM not based on it, i had already asked about that when it first appeared in Leonard's mod

aye, that would be the mod i'm working on. which really sucks. Men of Warhammer sounded really cool.

anyhoo, even a simple retexture isn't enough. official it is illegal for you to use the model at all. so its at your own risk to use them. but a lot of DoW mods seem to be using them and have yet to see any go down so we'll see.

GW doesn´t really care about this in their own games, but they are quite annoying when it comes to nonGW games from obvious reasons. You could base whole model on certain look of a unit as it still follows the rules written in codex (and I doubt Mira would be the exception).

The only problem is if this is backported model from SM. I doubt it seriously matters for GW but since Dofus tries to have 100% legal content...

Chompster Oct 14 2013, 4:41am replied:

i doubt GW cares, and it doesnt really concern them. as you said it concerns them more when you're making a game from scratch or miniature addons that they don't profit from.

it does concern Relic(studio that made SM) though, and if they see this and don't allow it hopefully they'll ask for them to remove the content first. and this is quite clearly the Mira model ripped from SM.

Shodar87 Oct 14 2013, 11:55am replied:

If they were concerned about this, a lot of existing mods wouldn´t be here since theres a lot of ripped models from DoW2 (one model from SM means nothing, it would require investigation of it´s problem and I highly doubt somebody would waste his time on it). Hence why it´s infinitely easier to bitch about mods from different games for just using the IP instead.

I highly doubt that GW or reric would care about this. It doesn´t mean that it´s perfectly ok or they couldn´t change their minds and go full Nazi, but this has been an issue for far too long and I just don´t see anything changing in future especially when the actual content stays "within the family".

This is why the Apocalypse mod team and obviously the mod itself cannot take the risk in backporting or importing models from another game.

Results. ^^

Not to come out of nowhere, but what I don't understand in the least is how any copyright/legal issue arises at all since 1: It's your mod, but could you not properly credit GW and/or Relic somewhere for the production of this asset you use? 2: forgetting that answer for a moment, Where's the problem AT ALL since this mod is 100% free?

Although when you really think about it both games are based on Warhammer 40k from GW and BOTH GAMES were made by RELIC as well. It is technically using a model from one of their other games in the mod just like those that use DOW2 models and textures. Overall it should be ok to use a Mira model but understandable if you don't.

Imperial Guard, Imperial Guard, Imperial Guard!

More balanced, tougher, and the AI is pretty dang tough compared to lazy and stupid usual ways. They also stand up against pretty much all races.

And everybody, thanks to LeonardGOOG, he is letting us use his material in the UA mod with much thanks and more to come! Sisters (especially), Imperial Guard, all female models you can think of by LeonardGOOG! Check out his page on Mod DB and track it to see what I mean. ;)

Oh and the Dark Eldar AI is fixed along with many other things and we are 85% done with the mod; ready to release October news coming soon! So keep an eye out!
