I removed the grey knight pilot yet in order to replace him with an GK Terminator Model in the future which i haven't extracted yet.

What do you guys think about the texturing?

Texturing is probably the second best of your work thereof (Tau Manta is da best :p). If by any chance, though I recommend bending the rules and have no pilot soaking all those bullets and transform that front end unit into like a cockpit or something of the like. Like this: Highdefdigest.com

The Penitent Engine, for example is just... Tofugu.com

Please no cockpit! A terminator armor and a gravity force field should be enough to withstand even some earthshaker artillery shells.

A Terminator within a cockpit reinforced by a forceshield? :)

Brilliant, but like some others have pointed out is there any chance for something to cover the cockpit? Personally I'm for some red fabric/cloth/cover I recall seeing a modded DK that had that.

Texturing is fine, it's hard to give more insight since Grey Knights are 80% chrome paint. You say you "removed the pilot" yet in the latest picture it is still there, clear as day, you can even see his legs and all...I think giving it this look would be better than strapping a pilot on it like a Penitent Engine:
I.imgur.com

Also, I have a question. Is the hammer an optional upgrade? Dreadknights come by default with plasma sword, flamer and bolter, but that hammer looks out of place in this kit... makesd it feel a bit too overloaded with weaponry, even for such a big unit...Are we going to get options to upgrade it to either a full melee-based unit or just leave him with decent ranged firepower like with Dreadnoughts?

Great work so far! I'm so proud of you!

Great! This fits very good into the gk army. Dont forget to add a intense energy effekt to the sword (it should be blue) and the gravitic forcefield fx around the Termi-Pilot.

As much as this is hated by many of the 40K community, I cannot get enough of these things, they're friggin epic! Awesome job guys :D

Speechless!!!
Cosmo, you are indeed great :)

And the textures are awesome, I would just like some more coloured specks/areas.
(the silver-ish look, though excellent, will be less monotonous if combined with a bit more, carefully placed colour).

Absolutely magnificent! DoW1 and War40k community certainly needs more full-time 3D/OE/FX artists as there is always amazing new minis to do from GWS.

I'll have em scripted and voiced for you when you have cycles to build the in-game eye-candy. ;)

What would you say burns out the developers for digital content the fastest?

Or is it the communities?

You have had convo's with quite a few, and I think it would be a good question to ask you. :)

Definitely I hate to say but the workflow for 3D/OE/FX is the most difficult and we have regrettably lost too many great artists since 2004 due to the challenge of fulfilling this project piece. Hence, any 3d artist in DoW1 should be ABSOLUTELY coveted and always praised for their efforts.

Yeah I deal with most of them and we never have too little to give them to work on. :( There is always too much and its sooo regrettable to see burn-out as they are incredibly valued.

The model looks really great !

Thudo : The problem is not only to make usable 3D models, it's also to convert and animate them. Me and a friend are able to make new models but I'm unable to convert them to Dow use...therefore lost models.

You need to hand your work over to DoW1 modders who can take your raw pieces and convert them so that can be useable in-game. It depends of course how they were modeled, how many polys, etc etc.. a basic understanding what is required to get a model into DoW1 needs to happen first before you start even on that road. ;)

It also depends on the raw time they can take for it you know ;) from what I know, the problem with DOW modding community isn't in the need of modelers, it's the need of people able to actually do the converting job you are talking about, and it's not small job. See the job done by Cosmo, it's already VERY productive. I'm sorry if I sound "know it all" but still, what you are talking about, I already done that. And sadly it's more complicated.

Where is the blockage buddy?

Animating can be done easy through xref or ffe. :)
Unwrapping might be a nightmare as it takes time. :)
Armatures/bones and skinning while tiresome is not impossible.
Converting into Max is easy enough with deep exploration.

A tip might be to start putting up 3d renders on your Images section. :)

As you can see with some of the first images I did it was just a render until everything started to come together. :P

You have to go -----> a long way in my images section, but you will find them... and a whole load more in FB.

On the max8 machine it is a straight burn through.
On the max7 machine it is a combo burn with dow and dc tools. :)
On the max6 machine it doesn't burn through as it is just a store for some of my earliest work, but I could get it to a combo DOW/DC burn setup. :)

Where are you getting caught up buddy?
There might be an easily found solution. Just ask and I think you would find many wanting to give you the knowledge of how to go further as there is always a way. :P

And another free mind, is always a good thing. :)

What exact do you have to "convert into DOW"? At first, I am interested in SpaceMarines and ImperialGuard models, at second - Orks models, so I can assist with those.

Description

Finally after several days of hard work (mostly ;-P) i've finally managed to texture all major parts of the dreadknight. I was doing some texture recycling from the IDH Grey Knights stuff so it looks very much alike the rest of the IDH Grey Knights now, which is nice. What you can't see in the picture is a flamer upgrade which isn't textured yet but shall be dealt with tomorrow and right after that i can begin getting this...thing into DoW finally so you can purge dem Daemons Matt Ward style! It'll have custom melee and finishing animations for sure!

So have a nice day folks!
