Hello,

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I've noticed so far that enemy commanders (I play against AI) are tough as hell even when I play on normal difficulty.

In one match, one demon lord would completely destroy my tau commander, 3-4 maxed out fire warriors squads, two skyrays, a barracuda, two upgraded listening posts and perhaps more. Not only he would do so alone, but he would do it virtually unharmed: in 2 minutes of being shot at by all my squads, he'll lose perhaps 200hp out of ~7600. I was at T3, my fire warriors and listening outposts were upgraded accordingly, my tau commander was also reasonably upgraded. Skyray's barrage fire ability was not helpful as well.

In a match before that, I've been shooting a Space Marines Commander with 3-4 Whirlwinds, 2 Whilrwinds MKII and 2 land raiders (the ones that have artillery), as well as a squad of space marines with upgraded weapons. In 2-3 minutes of being under fire, he lost perhaps 100 hp: he seemed to be regenerating at a speed of taking damage. His entire base was gone, yet he kept running around. I brought more tanks and more heavy-weaponized infantry: it didn't make much difference. Only after I built a titan, I could kill him (I was surprised how instantaneously it happened:) ).

Could someone please explain to me how those things work on UA? Are commanders supposed to be fought against with titans exclusively or what? If so, why would my tau commander be so beyond ineffective against the demon lord?

Thanks.

Tau commander(ranged damage), Daemon COomander(anti range Jesus). Daemons generally are quite resilient to ranged damage and once upgraded, take as low as 30% of the ranged damage. You'd have been better off with some Kroot shapers and Alpha Knarloc.

SM Commander probably had his blue morale shield up, and as you can guess, that also drastically reduces ranaged damage taken. Back to square one, easiest way to kill commanders is with your own melee commanders, abilities and specific anti commander units (Succubus, Slaneeshi units, pariahs).

I've fought a few Space Marine/Chaos Marine commanders in Terminator Armor (which seems stupidly easy to get for their power), and I generally need to devote a good chunk of my army to take them down. There are only so many units that can engage them at a time in melee, and ranged damage doesn't do much.

My main problem with commanders is their HP regen, though. Not only are they tough, but either you kill them or you might as well not even bother - anything less than a kill is wasted time, because they'll regen to full in no time. You can't do anything like wound them severely enough that it takes them out of the action for a period, because a few seconds in safety and they'll be right as rain.

They are quite expensive to upgrade, 100-200-300-400-500 (ADD ALL) and wargear before they can take on armies. At least 300 to take on turrets flawlessly
