Description

The Plasma Cannon is an experimental variant of the Laser Rifle. Instead of reflecting energy in a light beam, the weapon uses it's powerful battery to superheat material into plasma. The resulting plasma is discharged in a high energy beam that causes whatever target it hits to superheat as well.

The resulting of the attack is that any material, even Wrath armor, will ignite and burn for several seconds, causing additional damage after the initial hit. Multiple hits by a plasma cannon will cause multiple fires on a single target; the weapon can be used to destroy lighter armored enemies outright or inflict serious damage on larger targets with multiple attacks. The weapon is considered highly unstable and cleared for use only by UETF special weapons operators.

Experimental upgrades are available to experienced operators:
At level 1, a large amount of plasma can be discharged in a single attack, resulting in an unstable heavy energy projectile. This grenade like projectile will cause a damaging explosion where it hits in addition to igniting all surrounding targets in the resulting plasma cloud. CAUTION: Operators are susceptible to being ignited by the projectile explosion as well.
At level 2, the energy expended in each beam is increased, resulting in extra damage.
At level 3, the battery capacitor is upgraded, allowing more plasma to be stored in each.
At level 4, the plasma temperature is raised, increasing the amount of time the resulting plasma fire burns on targets. Also increases the burn time on the plasma projectile.
At level 5, a supercooling barrel is installed, allowing the weapon to fire at an increased rate without overheating.
At level 6, the mass of the projectile is increased, resulting in an increased area of damage on impact.
