The Tyranid Mod is an ongoing additional race modification for the original Dawn of War series, based on the Tyranid army from the Warhammer 40k tabletop game.

Tyranids are an intergalactic predator race which moves in hivefleets from world to world, devouring all living things and natural resources they can; leaving behind nothing but a barren rock, devoid even of atmosphere. Seemingly without individuals, Tyranids have a single hivemind that spans billions of their genetically-engineered combat organisms. Faceless and implacable, the Tyranid race is unrelenting and unstoppable. And their origins remain a complete mystery.

Although now already featured in Dawn of War 2, the Tyranid Mod Team is still hard at work trying to bring the Tyranids to Soulstorm (and if we can, Dark Crusade as well).

Hey folks,

So I've been given a list of most of the 0.5b3 updates from Miros and I thought I'd give you a little inside look at what's going on. This list isn't everything, but it constitutes the majority of what will be the 0.5b3 change list (less the Gargoyles, since they won't be an in-game unit until 0.6).

Things marked with a "" have been completed and/or implemented for testing, things with a "(?)" are things we are considering or need further discussion about their implementation.


  1. Hive Tyrant:
    - Re-animate
    - Center synapse marker
    - Sync kills/deaths
  2. Warriors: Sync kills/deaths
  3. Carnifex: Make missing animations
  4. Trygon: Burrow animation/FX
  5. Gaunts: Create Termagant/Spinegaunt fusion for generic "Gaunt" unit
  6. Buildings:
    - Complete animations
    - "Debris" texture
  7. Fix cover markers

  2. Broodlord: Reduce selection circle (?)

As you can see, there are a lot of changes and new content going into 0.5b3 - and this is just Miros' workload. After these are all completed we still have bug and balance testing and fixes and retesting, and then we ship it to you guys.

Also not included on this list are the new models in the works from Ministry and Heretec (who recently volunteered from the RelicNews forum to help us out) for 0.6. I'm not going to spoiler you on what those are, but new units are in the works.

So still a lot going on, and of course all our staff are doing this in their spare time - so unfortunately, as always, I can't give you guys a release date until we get to the "a few days off" stage. It is coming though!

0.5b2 FAQ:

So we seem to be getting the same three questions over and over from new people downloading 0.5b2. To save time, here they are in short form, with their relevant answers:

Why don't I have a builder?!
Click the button at the centre-top of the UI bar across the bottom.

Why does my build menu go away when I select a unit?! Why doesn't it come back when I de-select that unit?!
Because selecting a unit de-selects the hivefleet - exactly the same as when you click a unit that isn't your builder, you won't have your builder selected.

Why is the AI not doing anything?!
Have you installed the CPU player patch yet?

What's the deal with the Titanium Wars dude? He stole pretty much all the assets in our mod so he could use them in his mod without our permission which violated the terms of service of both ModDB and Relicnews. He's quite literally the kind of guy who asks if he can do a thing and then when he gets told no, does it anyway and tries to blame the people he asked for his own bad behaviour. And to top it off, he tries to scam donations out of people "to support his mod" even though Titanium Wars is mostly not his own work.

The Ultimate Apocalypse guys are pretty awesome though.

Hmm. DoW modding and fans community has quite large portion of slavic language speaking guys.
Time to time, some google translator use for cyrilic shouldnt be that suprising(Jones1979, Bagatur, I_Chample, you certainly heard of them, Grumpy Orc included)

But I always wondered that apart from Grumpy Orcs crime, Tyranid mod is ordinarily a required mod for numerous Mod combiners, including my dear friend's, an Aussie like you two xd, mr. Kasrkin89's Strongholds.
I heard that you,Zahaqi, inherited this mod from someone and that mod combiners use legal and your permission included some relatively easy technical script coding stuff to include Tyranids in combiners, but I still dont fully understand what exactly were GrOrcs crime.
Well, other guys doing mod combiners werent shamelessly stealing your mod assets after all, right?
Still lot of facts and informations on this long story for newbie fans like me to know.

Actually Fuggles has this wrong.

1) He didn't use a combiner method, he extracted all the art files from our mod and put them in his own mod so people don't need our mod to have our work.

2) He asked permission to do it, we outright said no. We only agree to combiner method collaborations. We were very clear that if he wanted to use the combiner method that he could, but we don't approve requests to extract files from our mod for independent use. He intentionally and openly ignored us on that. He actually took a lot more than he asked to use too (he never asked about sound files, UI art or any of the like).

So basically, he stole our work explicitly without permission.

Well, I remember GrOrcs wrote something about that common combiner method is technically impossible for him.
And later(yet quite long time ago now) I dont remember where, perhaps he wrote it somewhere on his pages, I read something about that he managed to solve it and that he came to terms with you to use combiner method.
Disregarding what he did, theres simply absolutely no chance that you two would ever cooperate at long last as colleague pals?
I'd guess that fans feel little bit bad about that.
Well, not that I can judge anyone or anything..
Bad enough for me to foul mouth him behind his back.
Unresolved case and years of mutual animosity aint nothing good and it throws bad light on entire DoW modding community, fans and modders alike, if you ask me.

Maybe I shouldnt keep picking into ghosts of the past, after all.

It was never impossible, he just didn't want to do it that way and as far as I know he hasn't bothered to try. He definitely hasn't "come to terms" with us - the last thing we heard from him was some crap about how he ought to be able to do whatever he likes with anyone else's work regardless of permission.

So no, wouldn't work with him in a million years, he's a selfish jackarse.

I can't say for certain because we're mostly focused on the code/gameplay side of things at the moment, but our model artists may decide to do some updates, I dunno. Mostly that's up to them.

We do encourage fan-made work though and Sinblood and Fuggles are two people who've been working on higher-def skins:
