Tyranid Mod v0.5b1 for Soulstorm
Dec 9, 2011 Full Version 11 comments0.5 beta 1: The first 0.5 series beta release for Soulstorm EDIT: Note that this has a bugfix you will need to perform to get the most out of 0.5b1
The Tyranid Mod is an ongoing additional race modification for the original Dawn of War series, based on the Tyranid army from the Warhammer 40k tabletop game.
Tyranids are an intergalactic predator race which moves in hivefleets from world to world, devouring all living things and natural resources they can; leaving behind nothing but a barren rock, devoid even of atmosphere. Seemingly without individuals, Tyranids have a single hivemind that spans billions of their genetically-engineered combat organisms. Faceless and implacable, the Tyranid race is unrelenting and unstoppable. And their origins remain a complete mystery.
Although now already featured in Dawn of War 2, the Tyranid Mod Team is still hard at work trying to bring the Tyranids to Soulstorm (and if we can, Dark Crusade as well).

Hey guys,
So 0.5b2, as has been stated previously, is mostly coded. At the moment a lot of us are wedged between mod work and real life commitments so development is on hold (although I'm doing a bit of UI work which I hope to get in by b2 release).
So our current expectations, based off our coder's schedule is we should be doing internal testing in late May, with a probable release in June. Probably.
Hopefully that clears up why we've been a bit quiet lately.

we can play it in warhammer 40k dawn of war soulstorm?
Yes we can!
we should all play a tyranids game together in soulstorm. I've done it before with my friend. GAUNTS LAG GAME TO ****
Depends on your video card(s).
We've done stress tests on that. :P
I like your mod but I think you need to update models and textures.
Just look at andreis work its amazing.
I have no idea who you're referring to, but there's a certain point at which (a) we're just stressing out people's video cards (and Soulstorm does that enough already), and (b) we'd be making every other model in the game look bad.
Our models for the most part are at a higher polycount and skinning quality than the average models Relic put in the game. We're quite comfortable with that. We're not making Dawn of War 2, nor are we attempting to compete with it. We're attempting to make a race that fits in with the game as is.
Couldn't you give the tyranids more titans but they're generally weaker(cut hp/dmg)? It's the tyranid swarm and I would love to have a gigantic floating balloon.
Intentional. Due to a bug, when enabled it becomes enabled for every race regardless of whether they use it or not. The next release shouldn't have that issue, we're using a different method for creating Influence.
Do you mean that all races would need to gain ork resource to progress up the tech tree or it would be on the side as decoration? If it's just showing it and not actually using it couldn't you just show it?
We could, but a) we prefer to have one race be confusing rather than all of them, and b) we're not using Ork Resource in 0.5b2. So releasing an update to fix it would be relatively pointless, since our next update will replace it entirely.
