- Twisted Insurrection: Tiberian Dawn - Nod Victory -

The year is now 2037. The Tiberian World now stands with a very uncertain fate. The two most powerful and influential forces on the planet are trapped in a never ending dead lock of war and combat. Whilst the Global Defense Initiative has suffered many blows and military defeats, the faction itself still stands strong and has shown the world its amazing ability to endure harsh punishments and has recovered much lost ground. The Brotherhood of Nod has struggled and triumphed over its enemies, only for its victory to be short lived by the death of Kane the Messiah, causing an ever lasting deterioration through the Brotherhood and leading to defeats and chaos amongst the large faction. With the end of the First Tiberian War comes the dawn and age of a new, second Tiberian War, with new terrifying possibilities and potential. The fate of Earth lies dangerously unknown.

- What is Twisted Insurrection? -

Twisted Insurrection is a stand alone modification of Tiberian Sun, meaning you don't need to own Tiberian Sun to play. The mod features a completely new in-depth story-line which puts you in an alternate timeline where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than GDI; After the Brotherhood used the Ion Cannon to destroy an irreplaceable monumental structure, the Global Defense initiative lost all UN support leaving them in total disarray. This is where our story begins.

Along with the complete overhaul and replacing of the original games graphics and having it's own all new soundtrack, Twisted Insurrection brings you all new units, infantry and naval forces to command as either The Brotherhood of Nod or the Global Defense Initiative in both singleplayer and multiplayer missions along with all new structures and base defenses to build as well! The mod also introduces the GloboTech corporation and contains all new campaigns for both GDI and Nod, plus some additional bonus challenge missions and several hidden maps so there is always plenty more to play. TI also features all new game-modes and over 100 multiplayer maps to play either online or in skirmish mode.

Do you have what it takes to drag the shattered Global Defense Initiative out of ruin? Or will you crush all who oppose the will of Kane and his Inner Circle? The choice is yours commander.

With a regular download I use JDownloader that allows me to resume downloading even if the connection goes offline. In any case, I got someone to download the files and then upload them for jdownloader, so now I played it. (I still recommend putting an official link for that, though :P). Anyway, thoughts so far:

1) The AI in skirmish now seems definitely less overwhelming and easier to keep track of, and I will soon try the campaign to see if it has been improv--- added there as well. Nice job.
2) Really liking the navy so far, and other than the fact you can't build tanks while you build ships and vice versa, I don't see any major issues with it (well besides the fact the AI obviously can't use it, that is). Just out of curiosity, what other problems are supposed to be there?
3) I'm not a big fan of the new goliath tank (it also looks a bit messy, definitely stands out if compared to "squarer" units like the abrams and others), I liked the titan far better but that's just my opinion I guess. Also, aw, why was the orca transport removed :[
4) Got the game to crash once on bay of pigs: Pastebin.com Hope I got the right log.
5) I am EXTREMELY glad you fixed the power lag issue. It might just be my computer, but in Tiberian Sun whenever the power bar changed the game would slow down to a crawl until it stopped. So even if a rifleman was attacking a power plant the game would become unplayable. I'm not sure why it happened, but now it's gone so I can finally play without having to build 50000 walls to protect the power plants

Overall, excellent work, this should keep me busy for some time.

1) Indeed, the AI has undergone even more changes, but it still needs a lot of work.

2) Several problems including the ones you listed, along with pathfinding issues, starting units, balance, AI and overall usability.

3) Well I'm afraid you can't please everybody. The majority of people enjoy the new Goliath including myself, it rids TI of the old TS feel and looks better too.
The Orca Transport was removed because it was bugged and kind of useless as you can simply use a Hover APC + Carryall combination.

4) Thanks, I'll look into it.

5) The graphics patcher may be the reason for that fix, it is provided by default with the launcher.

Hey Aro, glad to see beta 4 is out, but I have a request: I have a VERY slow internet and it seems that I'm unable to get the launcher to download the files from the internet (GAME.DAT doesn't download at all), at least with a regular download it would still take ages but I should be able to download it. So I was wondering if you could just upload the game folder somewhere without having to use the launcher for those of us with slow connections. Thanks very much, I can't wait to try this out.

It's actually much quicker to download the files via the Launcher than it is to download them all in one big Zip file from online (it also complicates things).
However, I will see about doing so regardless.

I usually find a torrent to be the best option when my connection's being ******.
Of course, that's usually still reserved for multi gigabyte files. Black Mesa and TATW, for example.

Would you think adding naval units to the mod?

Aro Sep 10 2012 replied:

Public Beta 4 features naval units, the final outcome (or even if we're going to keep naval units) will be decided based on feedback given afterwards.
It is probably one of our most requested features (after adding GloboTech as a third side...) and it has been implemented, but Navy in TS was just never meant to be. There are so many problems that just make it not worth it in the long-run, but we'll see how it plays out in the next beta.

It's not going to happen for the reasons Rampastring stated, not to mention that if we ever want to get TI 1.0 finished then I'd rather not add to the work-load.

Unfortunately the TS engine has so many issues when there's more sides than 2 that adding a third side isn't really worth it, at least right now.

Tiberium_Exposure Sep 24 2012 replied:

then what about for the next version, base it off of the same engine that allows Red alert 2 yuri's revenge to have 3 sides. wouldn't it work out then. and seeing how content wouldn't have to be modified all that much since both games have mods that use relatively the same units, it would work right?

Rampastring Sep 25 2012 replied:

The YR engine has a lot of differences, and while it allows some additional things, it also doesn't support all the logics TS and FS do (creating a Cyborg Reaper -like splitting missile weapon is impossible in YR, for example). Even some basic things are different, for example the menus, the YR engine has larger cells, the lighting engine doesn't look as good (mostly because of the larger cells resulting in more blockly lighting), superweapons like Ion Cannon and EMP might either require workarounds or not work at all etc.

So, while it would be mostly doable technically, some pretty important things would either have to be removed or changed. Oh and with it TI couldn't be stand-alone (because YR isn't free).

A really stunnning mod for the new graphical power alone. What the team had to do to make Tiberian Sun comply with these new effects, I don't even want to know, because it most likely has to involve human sacrifice. Cities look like what was promised before the release of TS by Westwood and the Tiberium lifeforms are as strange and varied as they should have been, even outdoing Firestorm's alien feeling. A few times I thought the units needed more balancing, but overall, every unit feels like it…
