Assume command as the ambitious Hierarchy, the robotic Novus, the mysterious Masari, or the desperate humans in this mod inspired by the game Universe at War by SEGA and Petroglyph. New gameplay mechanics, new units, and an exciting campaign bring the war to life with additional factions to add to the chaos. So what will you do? Conquer, or survive? All models added in this mod are property of SEGA or Petroglyph, used with permission of their respective creators, or were made by the developers of Triumph of the Hierarchy. Permission was recieved from Petroglyph and SEGA prior to the start of work on the mod.
Seen here is the final particle for the Saucer projectile and the new Novus unit, the Amplifier.
How will it attack enemy units? Will use a projectile?
Yes. They must deploy to fire (the left one is deployed) and they fire a projectile. I couldn't manage to make it work like UaW and deploy, so they use a spherical projectile.
I was thinking you could do like the Cov ships in HFO, they could have a beam ability.
I could. That didn't work well in space, but it would work on the ground. The trouble is requiring the unit to deploy. I think I could pull it off, but it will be like this for now.
One easy way to get a beam like effect is to use a small laser, like the infantry laser with a very rapid fire rate, and then change the color if you want. I have done this on the ground for my personal mod and it works pretty well.
I can't seem to get that to work. My lasers always end up going all over the place, no matter how good I make the accuracy. I'll take a look into it, though.
Two other alternatives:
1.) Use the Imperial flying unit with the electric beam, or the MDU Sensor node electric beam with this.
2.) You could make it have a large shot gun type blast based on Tyber Zann's projectile, but with a wider range. I'm fairly sure you could modify the color of the shotgun blast to be blue pretty easily.
Either option would make the unit a little different than the other Novus units. Just my 2 cents though.
I ought to consider inviting you to the mod team with such numerous ideas! The issue with number 1 though is that the Amplifier should be required to deploy in order to fire. I am hoping to get it to work with a projectile pattern that imitates a beam. Once I get that fixed on the Defiler and Glyphcarver (which use the Lancet beam) I'll fix it here.
The main issue (other than deployment) with the beam is that it hampers a vehicles ability to select targets, and the user must be constantly telling it to attack (unless the beam is constant, as is the case with the Lancet).
