Following the destruction of Nova Prospekt, Gordon Freeman has abruptly disappeared and is presumed dead.

The city has no hero and morale is low. The fate of City 17 now rests on the resistance fighters.

You are Matthew, a citizen who lost his family and home during the invasion. After barely escaping with your life when the police raid your apartment, you are recruited into the resistance and must prove yourself on the wartorn streets of City 17.

Triage shows the darker, grittier side of the conflict between the combine and the resistance from the perspective of a common citizen. Witness the horrors of the combine-human war and the devastating toll it takes on both sides.

Triage is an expansion to Half-Life 2's single player experience. New weapons, upgraded AI, large scale firefights and a mature story are only a few things to look forward to in this mod.

The mod takes place after Gordon Freeman's teleporter malfunction in Nova Prospekt, causing him to disappear for a week. Triage tells the story about the turn of events allowing the resistance to regain control of City 17 in his absence.

Features include:

  • A whole new high quality campaign, with new characters, locations and a storyline set within the HL2 universe.
  • Completely rebalanced explosive and tactical combat
  • Tougher, smarter NPCs who take cover and use advanced tactics such as bounding overwatch and suppressive fire.
  • Updated graphics and audio for a more realistic cinematic experience

Part 2

News 5 comments

In 2013, the Triage team finally released a buggy, somewhat finished part 1 after 6 years of modding while balancing school/work life and battling Steam issues.

Shortly after the release, the team split up to pursue their individual interests and spend time on their lives outside modding. This, along with the steampipe update and my current full-time job left me with a lot of work to do and very little time or resources. So, unfortunately there hasn't been much progress towards fixing the mod or releasing any other content.

After the steampipe update, the mod stopped working and I didn't have the time or knowledge to get it running again. However, today I was surprised to see Malortie voluntarily released a "patch" (http://www.moddb.com/mods/triage/downloads/triage-patch-source-sdk-2013) by rewriting the binaries in source 2013. It's missing some of the features (the movement, AI, weapon handling, gore effects, hud) so it isn't the same, but it does function from beginning to end, which is really cool and I'm very grateful for his efforts.

I have been messaged a few times by fans asking for me to create more Triage content. I can't promise a lot in my current situation, and I am a bit reluctant to make mods with anything Valve related (lately many modders have been moving to the indie scene, and it's also pretty clear mods and the source engine are not a priority to Valve anymore - which is fair, since they don't make much money off those things).

Anyways, let me know what you think. If there's enough interest, I can probably redo binaries in source 2013 and release a very short conclusion to Triage. This wouldn't be a patch but a couple maps to conclude the story. If not, I may move on to doing something indie related (probably UE4) and perhaps give an early demo to the Triage fans.

BTW, if I remember correctly, I accidentally packaged a prototype map in Triage. You can try it by typing map stealthmission in the console. Be warned, it is buggy and laggy, but if you're desperate to see something Triage-related, it's there!

Why is regenerating health considered tactical?

Because it gives you an incentive to use cover. Otherwise using cover wouldn't really help you and would just make you a big pussy :P

Also it doesn't regenerate as fast as COD. You die in 10-15 shots, and you have to be not taking damage for 8 seconds for your health to start regen, which then takes another 5 seconds. Closest example I can think of is the health system in the new Deux Ex game.

So it'll take over a minute to regenerate health to full?

It will take about 15 seconds of not being shot to fully regenerate your health. It sounds unrealistic, but in Triage enemies have much better aim and can kill you in 2-3 seconds if you are fully exposed.

So its fight like Guerrilla using cover or die, which makes sense because in most mods you play like you have the HEV suit when the player is actually a rebel with nothing that advanced.

Yes! That was one of the main goals of the mod. You also have to aim your weapon using ironsights and change positions constantly to avoid being flanked or surrounded, unlike HL2's enemies who just charge at you in a straight line.

Hmmm. The mapping seems proficient, but the whole idea of this mod has been done and said already. Although I do like the new inventory system.

Oh, you're definitely not dead. So, what new weapons do you plan on adding? I'm hoping for some futuristic rifles if you do.

So far, there's only the AK47 and the silenced version of it. All the default weapons have been completely rebalanced though and will feel much more realistic and satisfying than the default Half-Life 2 weapons.

Maybe, if time permits we can have more rifles but it is not a priority right now. It doesn't take long to add new weapons to HL2, but balancing them to feel right in triage's combat and placing the right amount of ammo in levels can take a while. If we were to add more, what kind of rifles would you be interested in?

You should add Alyxs pistol as another pistol.

Maybe a sniper rifle that fires a heavier version of the hunter flechette. Not necessarily classified as a sniper but a sniper in the sense that it has a slow fire rate and it's accurate. Or maybe have some rifles/small arms that are made from scrap parts.

There's actually a model of something like that sitting around, maybe it will be finished one day :)

This mod didnt get my attention on the moddb page but hey. This mod is "overwhelming" like in the first level you start shooting and blasting everything you see outha nowhere! wich is fun ;P though the first two levels couldf used more Detail like the last 2-3 levels! The city is SO ugly! and flat and empty! the there's almost "nothing" in the skybox on the second level witch makes me sad :( Though after you buckled trough that you get to the 3 level. Witch is lots of fun and stress since you get…
