The Prophecy:
One will be called the Freeman
One will be called the Gman
One will bring chaos
The destroyer of Worlds
One brings balance
The saviour of our race
Cautious you actions
The prophecy is at hand

Transitions is the place in-between Half Life & Half Life2, exploring the possibilities of what went on during this time. The player (Gordon) is running through the Black Mesa facility and into the Xen world bringing destruction with him. Exploring the possibilities of what went on during this time, the Vortigaunt are still unaware as to who is who (good or bad, the prophecy), Freeman or Gman. The Vortigaunt perceive Freeman (Gordon) as the destroyer of worlds and the Gman as the saviour. Until they realise that Gordon ‘is’ the saviour they will continue to battle against him until they find the truth.
Transitions will enable Gordon, along with the Vortigaunt to establish, truly ‘who’ is ‘who’. The scene takes place where Half-Life left off; you are on a train in some strange space travelling sequence, the Gman offers Gordon the option to work for him or alternatively face a challenge he has no chance of winning. Should you decline the Gman’s offer you are sent back to Xen confronted by hundreds of Xen armies and with no weaponry to defend yourself, the screen descends to black and the credits begin to roll. Should you have taken the Gman’s offer then you are placed into stasis, until the advent of Half-Life 2 and the story continues.
Transitions will allow the player to choose not to work for the Gman, but to fight your way through Xen, but this time with the chance to defeat the enemy foes you are confronted with. This leads to many different and yet not so dissimilar places experienced in the original Half-Life. When ‘you’ the player reach the end of the game, and open the final portal, you unleash the combine invasion to truly take its grip and overthrow the Xen race. The screen fades and again are confronted by the Gman on the train, who explains that any choice you make is always advantageous to him, and that you have always being working for the Gman and always will.

Your right, on that particular section the vortigaunt are triggered to appear in a group of five. However, the shotgun can be picked up just before the portals are triggered, the shotgun also has enough power to kill a vortigaunt with one bullet (2 max if from a meager distance). You should then be able to utilise the health ponds, the shotgun, and the ammo close by to overcome the foes.

Antlions and headcrabs: with regards to these 'missing' creatures, unfortunately time was not something that was on my side and their lack of presence is only due to that fact. I had many initial plans for many of ther creatures to re-appear in this game, but alas never made it (a shame i know :-( ).

The combine soldiers are there to tell some of the storyline and allow for the player to re-supply in a (somewhat) realistic manner. The combine are informing the player that they have already been here, they are part of a number of combine offensives that has failed to break through to Xen to enable the total combin/Gman rule, this is where (in my story) the xen race becomes overpowered then ultimately the controlled by the combine.

No worries, there was no offence taken at all, i'm sorry if it came across that way. I was just detailing what i intended on doing, but ended up with.

I'm aware of The HL2 Saga story, and although some of it is quite interesting, the majority of it is mere speculation and the writteres own personal view of events, there is nothing to say that the combine didn't invade Xen at the same time as Earth, after all you're stuck in Black Mesa... :-)

Quote:You should make a sequel where a huge combine portal opens up in the sky and combine teleport in huge masses and completely anihilate the xen aliens. It would be awesome seeing combine blow the crap out of xen aliens.

LOL :-)
I'd love to, in possibly in the near future may well ad an update to Transitions, however the problem with sooo many combine and Vortigaunt models is that frame rates would be impossibly low, to try and re-create the encounter realistically would ake a lot of models, physics and ai interaction.

But yes it would be good :-)

Its very hard yet a very good mod! Of course there were a lot of vortigaunts spawning everywhere but if you stay in the water pond you can survive.. If you stay out of bullets you can crush them with the crowbar! Just dont go out of the pond lol. Mapping was very cool, sounds cool.. the only one problem just as everybody said, is the high number of vortigaunts spawning. By the way, the vortigaunts are atacking much more faster arent they? Good job! :D

Thanks very much for the review, it's much appreiciated, i know that it can get a bit repetative in points, but as i was unable (at the time) to port the houdeye and grunts into the mod (unfortunately) only the Vortigaunt were a possible solution at the time.

But thanks for the honest opinion :-)

OK aside from being really chalenging the MOD is pretty nice. Graphics 9, the most lovely XEN maps I have seen by far to date/although damn LAGgy for less powerfull machines/. No big replay value, sadly. Sound 7, well a few nice ideas/nice touch with the unused Gman soundclips/, but nothing that much out of the ordinary.Gameplay 6 fun in a away, but too repetative /with just a gazilion vorts spawnin' endlessly in LARGE numbers, gets annoing at some point/, the guardians puzzle was interesting.
There really would have taken just a lil bit more for that to be a more than average mod with nice maps.
More enemy types, less vorts or atleas some pause before they start respawning. If you switch to HL:S you could use the hl1 enemies/like agrunts etc./ to giv eit a more post hl1 feel/there are two different projects out that have ported the HD models of many enemies to the source engine so you could use them/.
All in all a nice, for one run trough mod.

if you stand in the pond until you are fully healed and then run back to the re-supply box, you should make it back to the health pond way before dying and allowing you to overcome the blue Vortigaunt.

A certain number of vortigaunt must be overcome before the final shields are opened.
