Toxis is a mod for the Half-Life 2 engine, based around many differn't, old 80's cyberpunk movies and tv series.

The story revolves around 3 rebelious marines, Sgt. Jenkins, Cpl. Hart and Pvt. Genosha. If they are not blowing things up, setting traps or just generaly causing havoc for the local populous, then the day is a good one for the military.

When Cpl. Hart finds children straped into virtual reality beds to breed the next type of super soldier, he and his 2 squad mates set out on a journey across polluted city scapes, barren wastelands and derelicts subs located at the bottom of ocean ravines inhabited by psychos and mad scientists.

The General concept is to create a 3 player online game (based around certain asspects such as left 4 dead and tf2), combining the more serious side of cyberpunk (Blade Runner, Neuromancer e.t.c) with comedic cyberpunk edges (Red Dwarf, Dominion Tank Police). Each player will have certain weapons, traits, even gadgets to reflect the chracters personality/role, aswell as taking certain routes/puzzles that affect later gameplay.

Storyline based round the following cyberpunk concepts:

Blade Runner, Neuromancer, Max Headroom, Cyber City Odeo 808, Red Dwarf, The Matrix, Dominion Tank Police, Aliens.

If you would like to enquire into the game (or to sign up to it) simply send either Crash-Headroom or Jenkins_08 a pm, and/or add one of us to ether msn or steam.

-Unfortunately, due to personal reasons development of this mod has stoped for the time being. Work shall continue maybe at a later date (or when I get more staff). Till then, if anyone would like to see some of the maps worked on in this mod, please don't hesitate to contact me via PM on moddb (email is also good).

Thank you for watching and I am sorry I was unable to bring you all 20 minutes into the future.

9 comments by jenkins_08 on Dec 11th, 2010

Yes that's right it's Christmas again and another year has flown by with not as much work being done for Toxis as we might have hoped. This year has been a difficult year for me because my Grandma passed away not long after i posted the last news update actually, i'm also doing an I.T course at college and have been having problems keeping up with everything. That and also both Crash and I have had trouble finding sources of inspiration or people to help us which is basically same old story with a game like ours (Not another generic brown FPS but one with actual colour and cyberpunk inspiration which stopped being popular years ago unfortunately).

While i have been busy making music and reviewing games (check the blog! -> Jenkins' Game Reviews), Crash has been getting his hands very dirty again with an almost complete remake of the original level we started with back in 2008.

After a lot of cosmetic changes Crash & I thought it was time to show what's been going on with this map.

Also I wanted to post some sound effects I've made since our last news post, most of these weren't created specifically for Toxis, however some of them may be in the final game.. who knows..
Press the orange play button!

Also checkout some of the tunes I've made since May as well; (first few pages were made since May this year).

Anyways here's wishing you all a safe and Merry Christmas! I don't buy into that whole politically correct "Happy Holidays" crap because it's like denying Christmas exists... sure I'm not a religious person but I'm also not ignorant lol.

Well I would still very much like to continue this (however due to lack of help and the program being stolen by a very heartless wench, its on hold...least Till i can find a modeler).

Yo, has been a long time since I've posted but...well it is and isn't alive. I would like to continue but I cannot do ALL the work myself :(. If I can get some help then i'd be more than happy to restart it back up properly.

Loving that floor, I bet you had to test it quite a lot before you got it exactly right :). For some reason I can imagine it leading up to the gigantic Deus ex hand statue:

The same treatment given to that statue would be cool.

lol like that idea :) nice one man. But the floor was going to be used just before the last boss. Additions were to be made such as metal unfolding out the side of the walls to form railings and such with a bridge. Statue might be good to, but no it would have to look like a VERY conceptual art peise (A.K.A HAMMER BRUSH! i love hammer brushes ^^).

When I dabbled with hammer I was the same, everything made from brushes:

Useful tool for anyone who maps and doesn't want to learn to model.

You need to play Dystopia and then have a forth player (or a bot) in the virtual world trying to screw things up for the other three players. For example, turning military defence systems against them, launching Excaliber Artilarry Rounds at them, sending Predators towards their location, locking them out of (or inside) buildings, activating burglar alarms and thus alerting the police, etc.

ohhhhhh the amount of ideas you have just stated that we had come up with....we had even gone as far as to sit down and think of a GOOD hacking game to make a game within the game for hackers. I have played dystopia, really like it but its cyberpunk style was not what i favoured (dystopia goes for a more shiney polished look on its technology, we wanted to go very grimey and darker). Keep the good ideas comming in! the mod maybe stoped for now but im still writing the story and creating maps....
