Tour of Duty is a realistic team play mod for Halflife by Valve Software. The game is set at the height of the Vietnam war, between 1967 and 1973 allowing you to relive the conflict fighting either for the United States Marine Corp (USMC) or the Viet Cong (VC)/North Vietnamese Army (NVA).

The mod features realistic weapons of the period, and a number of gameplay styles including control point capture, demolition or bombing missions, capture the flag/radio/codemachine and escape and evasion are the currently coded styles.

We are also planning on adding rescue missions, where you'll rescue a general or famous figure.

We've added support for some vehicles that players can ride into the action in, with guns 'ablazing', right now, we have a huey that players ride to the bomb target zone, and have plans for PT boats in future levels.

1 comment by Tompko on Dec 4th, 2004

Tour of Duty 1.3 is finally released. There are a few fixes and a few additions. However we are sorry to say that this is the final patch for Tour of Duty for HL1. It is in no way the final game but we will no longer be working on it. The file can be found on file planet at Fileplanet.com. Also to go along with the last patch for Tour of Duty we have a new website to go with it. So head over there and check out the new design and read the whole release news. Sign up at the new forums and check us out in irc at #tourofduty on gamesurge.

Hello everyone from ToD !!!
Its been years ! If you don't remember me, I am FuG-eRe, I was an avid Tour of Duty, supporter, promoter, player and addict !
Also leader of a clan called .
I hope you are all well, its good to finally be able to get into contact with the old players from this wonderful mod. I have been searching for forums or a website, but alas !! nothing anywhere...

I would really love to to play this mod on the source engine..... heaps of work probably.

Maybe someone could throw together a forum so we can discuss the past, present and perhaps future of the mod ?

Anyway I all you ToD players are doing well, and lets not give up on this mod, because its the best ;)

You take TOD 1.3 you convert it into TOD : Source
Now you got the "new" game, then you advertise it as hell !!!
You guys, even the MOD Goldeneye : Source got popular, There is still hope for TOD,
but realise that the people who find TOD:S will be a whole new croud. But I am positive that it would be awsome and possible. Make this happend, Regroup, we need a Vietnam war ERA mod, imagen all the things and maps that would be under the HL2 engine, you got more options then the HL1 engine. HL2 + Vietnam War just can't go wrong! You can if you want to add me a personal message incause there is somthing I've missed, like a url for TOD 2 / TOD : S ;)

Didn't realize there were still people (at least through last year) looking at this mod. My bro (sluggo) and I worked along with about 1/2 dozen ppl on the mod for about a year or so till we got too busy IRL and had to stop working on it. I heard that there was a new crew reviving it, didn't realize it went on that long!

My Participation in ToD: I joined at the beginning of 2002, stayed on for about a year or so (i really cant remember how long but anyone who was there for the early releases would remember me). I worked mostly as a 3d animator, did some models and skins, and did a lot of the 'how the hell do i get my model into the game?' work. Guys I remember working with: sluggo (coder), commando (coder), the jeep (mapper), stikifinga (mapper), swede (forum ***** and mapper), dark nemesis (2d artist), wish i could remember more, but if ppl spoke up id be like 'hey oh yeah, holy crap!'.

Good to see interest lasted this long, hopefully someones running a server somewhere with ToD on it, would like to see what the guys who continued it made it into.

I still remember when u left...
you forgot to mention a few things tho

After Teufel left, Stikafinga (the main mapper and creator of favorites such as LZ) disappeared no-one noons what happened to him he left only his final version of bb_lz on his ftp the existance of the final map was forgotten until after 1.2.1 however although it was found it was never released to the public.

The release of steam was the thing that most people attribute to the death of ToD, although in reality it was just one more thing going wrong amoung many. Steam did do a pretty good job of screwing the game tho. It broke the fog and many other things aswell.

Then the main coder sluggo left.

Then ToD went for years between updates during this time the background was still broken the game had tons of bugs and the team never really got their **** together.

I joined the team

Then when 1.3 was finally released the wrong release canidate was released to the public. the older bugger build of tod was worse then 1.2.1 and broke more things then it fixed. most of these bugs were generally taken care of by the final release.

A patch was never released. But we switched hosts a couple weeks before the release. All the files on the ftp (including Stikafinga's final map) were lost. Along with all of the rc's.

The website went down
