[OSP] InVain's TLD Scene Pack

Just as TLD, this package is an OSP, so you're free to change, re-upload or incorporate it into other mods. Please give me some credit. :)
Keep in mind that you'll need most if not all of the TLD scene props to use these scenes. In the package, I only included those props added or modified by me.

Please be also aware that some scenes are far bigger than their original counterparts. They will all take some time to load and may or may not cause lag on older machines, although I tried to skimp on particle effects like smoke. For comparison: I have an Intel i5 4570 and a Radeon R9 270X and all
scenes run fine. If you use battle sizer, I recommend reducing the battle size to ~100 for sieges. Not only for performance reasons, but also because I think this gives you a bit more time to enjoy the scene. Not all sieges are thoroughly tested, so please let me know of any problems you encounter.

You're welcome to report bugs or leave a comment in the comment section. Check the main thread on Taleworlds for new version announcements and quick bugfixes!

Disclaimer
This submod brings some changes that either may affect gameplay or the aesthetics of some scenes:
- The war intro cutscenes won't work properly due to the changed scenes.
- Destructable gates are much stronger now.
- This mod overwrites TLD's 'black' pebble ground texture with Vanilla's, so some scenes, namely orc camps, might look strange now until I fix this.

List of scenes

Gondor
Minas Tirith:basically re-done. Looks huge now, but only a small portion is
walkable. Much more complex and atmospheric siege scene (expect to
die).

Pelennor Fields: own creation, still needs some crop fields

Pelargir: vastly expanded, new siege scene, needs some more details

West Osgiliath: expanded, changed siege a bit.

Credits
The original and current TLD team for creating and keeping alive this great mod. This OSP is also meant as a tribute to you. TLD for M&B .808 was my reason to buy this game in the first place.
Gutekfiutek for some textures I recklessly stole from his great Polished Buildings pack
Ruthven for some water particle effects which I did not yet manage to get to work properly |-)
Crusaders Way to Expiation Mod: some meshes

Installation

If you've manually downloaded and installed TLD

  • Go to mod's directory. It is inside the "modules" subfolder within Warband's main directory.
  • Create a backup!
  • Unpack the scene pack's zip file into your TLD directory. It should ask if you want to overwrite existing files, allow that.
  • Before applying a new nightly patch, make sure that patch does NOT contain one of these files: module.ini, scenes.txt, scene_props.txt, flora_kinds (in the "Data" subfolder). If it does, check if a new version of the scene pack has already been released. If so, install the nightly patch and then reinstall the scene pack over it.

If you've downloaded TLD via Steam Workshop

  • Go to the mod's directory. It should be here: \Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\48700\299974223
  • Create a backup!
  • Unpack the scene pack's zip file into your TLD directory. It should ask if you want to overwrite existing files, allow that.
  • Updating your mod via Steam Workshop might cause problems if the new version changes certain files (see above). If that happens, check if I've already released a compatible version of the scene pack. Usually, this happens within a few days.

If you want to use the scene pack in combination with another submod

  • The best and safest way to incorporate this pack into another submod is by using the module system!
  • Most submods that I know of do not change the same files as the scene pack: module.ini, scenes.txt, scene_props.txt, flora_kinds (in the "/Data" subfolder). However, the scene pack also uses some assets that have only recently been added to vanilla TLD. If your submod is based on an older version of TLD, you need to manually add these assets:
  • Create a backup of your mod first!
  • Download the latest version of TLD: Tldmod.github.io
  • Copy all BRF files from the "/Resource" subfolder that your mod is missing. That's most importantly all files starting with "JB_"
  • Do the same for all textures in "/Textures" associated with these BRF files, again, that's mainly those starting with "JB_". Use the programm "OpenBRF" to check which textures are referenced in the BRF files.
  • Compare your mod's module.ini with the one from my scene pack and add all load_mod_resource entries that are missing. That should be it.
  • If your submod changes the .txt files specified above, you need to know how to mod Warband via text editing or via the module system (only works if you have the submods source files). The scene pack's source files are included in the archive.
  • I do not grant any support if you've installed the scene pack along with another submod! Before asking for help, make sure that any problems you encounter also happen if using the scene pack with vanilla TLD!

Hello, sorry for disturbing.
1 If I download the latest nightly patches from the link you sent me can I just put them on my TLD Overhaul mod, will it mess up anything?
2 If doing this is ok, will that fix the script problem that the gate falls down but there still is an invisible wall?
Thanks

1) This you should definitely ask over at their board. But yes, it will certainly mess up things as it will overwrite the files that TLD overhaul changes.

2) As I said, I can only guess what causes this script to fail. As long as the TLD overhaul doesn't use the source code, it's probably impossible to fix for them. A dirty workaround until then would be to delete the gates and the barriers via the scene editor. This should also affect vanilla TLD's scenes, by the way, so it shouldn't be a problem specifically with my scene pack.

I appreciate you trying to help those guys and I don't mind pointing them to the right direction, but this board really is not the right place for that. :)

Thank you for the reply and help.
I do not want to disturb you but since you are a developer I think that your knowledge can solve this problems, but I understand how hard it is as you have to detect them on somebody else's work.
Is there any place where these can be discussed like a discord, because using the steam page or any webpage is useless as you get advice from normal players, but these problems are complicated and can only be solved by people with vast knowledge like you.
I have tried asking the TLD Overhaul team but Sidney has been frank with me by saying that his knowledge is limited and he cannot solve this issue.
Thanks again :)

Hello, just a small question.
Have you considered changing the siege of Minas Tirith but using the original built.
I personally love your version because it is dynamic and lore friendly since in the book it says how the first wall is black, but I have seen people complain about that.
I know you can't please everyone but is there any chance to change the siege of the original Minas Tirith as all because all that happens in the original one is the defenders charge out of the main gate and there are some archers on the first wall.
Your version has defenders maintain layers of defence and strategical positions. Can you consider doing this on the original version?

I might add a patch in the future that makes MT's walls white. If I decide I care enough.

Hello. Awesome maps, gives the game so much diversity. I love the sieges.
There are a couple of bugs I would like to report so maybe they can be fixed.
1 The battle map outside osgiliath has glitchy walls, floor, spawning points and invisible walls.
2 After doors have been broken down on most settlements attackers can't come in, if they are lucky enough to break the doors in the first place.
3 In a Gundabad camp all attackers spawn inside a rock so nothing can be done (sorry don't remember which one)

Now I will not report invisible walls as bugs because I can see that you put them to keep defenders on some stations which is pretty cool and genial. I would recommend though reworking at the one that connects the Hornburg/s deeping wall to the keep. Maybe removing it:) and there is one on Dolg Guldur up the stairs that keeps a huge group go goblins in a place that does not seem necessary.

The mod is amazing, but I think that the spawning and the gate problem needs a little more work.

Hello and thanks!

Let me quote myself: I do not grant any support if you've installed the scene pack along with another submod! Before asking for help, make sure that any problems you encounter also happen if using the scene pack with vanilla TLD!

I literally plastered my page with this disclaimer and yet you chose not to mention you encountered these problems in TLD Overhaul. That's not very kind and it also makes my submod look bad. I can assure you that everything works fine on my end, so I guess the creators of TLD overhaul somehow confused versions. They need to fully update TLD to the patch I specified (although later versions should work, too) and, ideally, reapply my submod via the module system.

Oh I am not trying to make you mod look bad, your submod is amazing and unmatched. I have read your disclaimers but I promise that I simply forgot to mention it. Please do not take it personally, I am not trying to offend or criticise you or even tell you how to do your job.
I just asked you because you are the creator and I thought you could help me.
If the case is with the patches and scripts can we individually do anything to fix them or is it up to the TLD Overhaul team.
Thank you, and I hope I haven't caused you any trouble.

It's okay, no worries. I got annoyed because this is the exact situation I wanted to avoid: Bugs in another submod being reported to me. If I hadn't read the discussion over at TLD Overhaul, this would've caused me additional trouble because I'd have to double check and try to reproduce the bug and then try to find the problem with your installation.

I posted a comment on TLD Overhaul's page and gave a ew hints. I know they're not very experienced with WB modding yet, but they need to sort this out on their own.

I completely forgot to tell you that I was using TLD Overhaul. My apologies, I meant no harm. Sidney said that he is going to re upload it so I will wait for the team to do it so I do not mess up my game.
Is there any chance since you are such a skilled map maker to actually make some more maps and battlefields? :)
There will be more updates coming up right?

I'm actually busy adding or expanding scenes for the TLD main mod. Any new scenes recently added to TLD (village and scout camp quest scenes, landmark or region specific battle fields, new orc camps + siege scenes) are made by me. Check here: Forums.taleworlds.com

But I have also plans to expand my submod.

That is awesome, so the best way to be notified for TLD updates would have to be the steam workshop right?

The steam version does not (yet) get updated regularly. If you want the latest Nightly Patches, check here: Tldmod.github.io

You could also follow on twitter, if you use that. But it's only a bot posting the latest updates: Twitter.com
