Tikiwiki is a UT3 MOD set on the island of Ahi’Wai. Two tribes, the Sariswati (Water Tribe) and the Ignatus (Fire Tribe), are struggling to survive as the resources they require to survive are dwindling mysteriously. They do not like conflict, and will do anything to avoid outright war and bloodshed. The tribes have come up with a system of gathering resources in a competitive nature as the elders work to find the truth behind the disappearing resources. The tribes have put forth their fastest and their brightest to help gather the resources through a fast paced junction capturing tournament.

Post news Report RSS Technical Director - Regner

A quick introduction of me, Regner, Tikiwiki's technical director.

Posted by on

My name is Regner Blok-Andersen, and for this project I am the teams Technical Director.

Our team is a little lop sided as far as how many people are on each team (Design, Programming, Art). We have 13 designers, 4 programmers, and I am not sure how many artists we have. These teams are created by grouping together the designers, programmers, and artists who wish to participate in the project and who are in their 5th quarter. I am actually one of the designers, when we started the project it was fairly obvious that this was not the ideal ratio. It was decided that since i have a fairly decent understanding of scripting and programming, as well as the best understanding of Unreal Tournament 3 I would lead the programmers. The idea was that I would primarily task and schedule the programmers based on information they gave me and I would handle the communication with the other teams.

When we started this project we had all of our team start on the same day, not really the ideal situation when you are not even sure what you are going to be making. The first thing that I had my team do was work on anything I could think of that would be used no matter how the game turned out, such as researching our front end, implementing the character, and other such tasks.

Other then scheduling the programmers I was also responsible for creating our content pipeline, the naming conventions, an asset exporting tool for the artists, and other such tools.

My objective throughout this project has been to ensure that our programmers are able to stay productive and always have something to do, hopefully something more useful than not. It is my hope that in the eyes of the programmers the project has been a success and a learning experience. I also hope they have enjoyed it as much as I have.

We have 4 weeks remaining until our project is due, here to hopping that the UT3 expansion on March 5th does not break everything, stupid steam and pushing updated :(

If you have made it this far through my ramblings, thank you for reading.
