Tiberian Sun Rising is a total conversion for Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars! Tiberian Sun Rising brings back GDI and Nod battling it out during the Second Tiberium War, retelling Tiberian Sun as never before. This isn't just a remake of the hit title C&C Tiberian Sun. It is a mod making Tiberian Sun as it should have been originally so expecting lots of new fun and originality while sticking to the feel Tiberian Sun had. Taking the mindset that this is the first time Tiberian Sun is being made and using the original game as a design concept. This mod will also include the additions made in Firestorm so it is a remake of Tiberian Sun and Firestorm as one to what they should have been.New abilities and units will appear in Tiberian Sun Rising as well as new kind of gameplay altogether.

I don't really like the rings, they take away the focus of those beautiful models, but its your call, I will play this sweet mod nonetheless.

We're experimenting with different ideas for how we display ownership of buildings and units.
However the earlier discussed idea of rings that show up on selection is an unfortunate none starter, gets far too confusing to remember who owns what really quickly.

What about what those guys did in MEC2? a little text above the unit saying "Target" not original but it is a bit smaller then the circles, though this might not be the solution but more of a hotfix.

That or buidling-color/logo retex for captured buildings, either way I still like the rings.

how about an part of the model, that will have the teams color (somewhere that is easily noticed) and remove the ring completely (something like the Tiberian Sun)one downside is that the models will most likely have to be redone (if so, then forget this idea)

i like the rings, they make the buildings stand out aswell, without the rings the GDI camo in this particular desert map and daytime, could be hidden from a quick scroll across the base, and without them it might also become somewhat like "Where's Waldo" on larger bases to find a particular one. with the rings all bases are easily lined out and then its faster to quick scroll across and located a single building.

might just be me though...

suggestion: have the rings appear on selection/mouseover, but also have a small ambient 'glow' under each structure for quick visual reference. that way you can keep picky peeps form getting annoyed by the rings, but also have an easy way of differentiating between players.

on an unrelated note, once you get all of the core faction stuff done, perhaps consider remaking some of the old civvie buildings? I liked the visual style of the yellow-zone buildings in sun, and you guys are awesome, so I figured I'd ask.

I changed my mind EvilGoodGuy's idea seems both easier and more effective.

rings look like for player color, i'd rather have them more transparent however..... which is still useful

Here is an idea I have for the rings:

Img52.imageshack.us

I did that in photoshop so it obviously looks crappy, but you get the idea :P

If the idea of having different rings for selected and non-selected units/structures is too confusing in-game, then perhaps just having the partial "rings" would be better than the full ones.

As I said, we've got some plans, but they're currently stuck under the label of classified until either working as intended or discarded. Personally, I like the idea of different rings for selected and unselected things. Not sure on the structures having different markers though since it could hurt faction cohesion.

@Mechanis - Civilian structures from TS will likely be put in at some point, but as you said, need to finish the core factions for a playable game first. On the subject of passive glow, not sure it would work. It would probably end up with the same sort of issues as the rings do.

@EvilGoodGuy - Seen worse photoshops in my time.

Hmm...
I'm a small modder myself (mainly adjusting balance so things are actually worth what you pay for them) and I seem to remember trying something with ambient glows way back in the misty veils of Generals, and I found the best solution was teamcolored units and glows under buildings. so for this, having the rings appear on units all the time (definitely with a transparency for non-selected stuff) but only appear on structures when selected, with a slight ambient light under in teamcolor would be best. also, I would suggest several settings for the rings, something along the lines of this:

Full integration: interface will display the most data, with strong rings on everything, while useful for tactical maneuvers within dense terrain (such as cities,) may affect immersion factor

Standard integration: Displays strong rings on units and selected buildings, and faint rings on unselected buildings. default setting.

Partial integration: displays faint rings on unselected units and structures, and strong rings on selected stuff.

Minimal integration: building rings are faint and only display on mouseover/selection, unit rings are faint always.

No Integration: no rings at all.

Not a fan of the rings. Models are pretty decent though.

Good job.

I still say simple way around it is have rings toggleable. This way you can keep them in.

It doesn't bother me much really not being able to see who the unts belong to anyway. Besides what player doesnt keep track of his units to begin with?

An idea with the rings would be that if you scroll over the building or unit then you see a semi transparaent coloured ring. Buildings that way wont display a ring unless you mouse over them. Units heh, rings can be on them all the time as semi transparent.

I think having bright big rings around all the buildings takes away from them. Kinda ruins immersion also.

Having the huge rings totally kills the immersion factor for me. I prefer to view the battle and look at stuff as if it were real, not have unnecessary clunky graphics everywhere. This is part of the reason why C&C 4 was terrible imo.

Just my 2 cents. Nice mod btw, been watching for awhile.

an idea for ownership colors would be to have the lighting on the building (the little lights that bleep on some buildings) in house colors instead of a default white
