Ouu those look like a real powerhouse :O
Are those railguns or just really fancy artillery cannons?

From where did you take the idea of railgun? :p LOL I never saw an "Heavy Artillery" of railgun, I'm sorry... Railguns aren't bullets to fly and fall on the target, Railguns shoot directly, straight.................

You're wrong. Railguns arc as much normal artillery cannons do, the slugs just fly much much further than normal artillery shells.

Actually, the only difference is that a railgun fires electromagnetically and a cannon uses expanding gasses from a chemical reaction (explosion) You can have low-power railguns that arc and high powered cannons that shoot close to straight.

This is Not the final version. I just want to know if you think of this Design, to not continue it if everyone hates it :P

These are really fancy artillery cannons with massive Recoil. Nod doesn't use Railguns.

Well if your just going for the looks I think its pretty much everything an artillery piece needs to be. It is effective and its got a nice gun up there! ;)

the pylons would only make sense if it is hovering for movement and it has to ground itself in some way to fire

is there an option to switch between deployed and undeployed modus or will it deploy automatic?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Automatically, when it starts the attack, since there is no real point of a switch, as it can't attack without deploying.

well in that case that is pretty scary because think of the upgraded artillery use is mass as a ambush which could be quite devastating to the enemy

It is a very beautifull model, but, has you says, modern self propeled artillery do not use stabilizers.
Exept that, it is perfect, as all your work...

I think it needs a wider turret with something that looks it can hold the ammunition for the howitzer.

You're right those side pylons are silly unless you put them on wheeled howitzers since tracked ones can withstand the sheer force of the gun.

A nice wheeled howitzer example is the G5 from south Africa which the Renegade model was based on Sharecg.com

Maybe your team could mod the turret like this Img169.imageshack.us

It is still compact enough but have room to hold the howitzer's mechanisms.

The ammunition is stored in the Chassis and belt-fed into the Turret. I've not modeled the belt yet tho.

I really like it. The KW nod arty was just awful, with its weird spider leg thing going on, it wasn't like the old nod arty at all. It didnt seem like the natural progression the arty system would go through.

But yours does seem like an honest technological progression, good job. I personally would have made the cannon bigger, as the TS seems to have a rather large cannon, but the size is fine now.

If anything, the rotating joint the current cannon sits on seems a little weak, something you would see on a MBT, rather than arty. I think beefing up the 'turret' joint could do a lot for it.

And I just realized this is all moot if this arty is the size of a mammoth. Yeah, its definitely big enough in all respects then. Ha, sorry.

Looks super cool. Don't know about the belt-fed ammunition system though, can't imagine it being safe for the crew))) Maybe it's better just to make the turret base a bit bigger, so as to kinda hide the reloading mechanism...

It's not a Frontline unit, so it doesn't need as much protection as ,say, an MBT.

Side stabilizer is useful if gun can rotate 360 degrees. ( Side direction firing). Modern artilleries doesn't have this feature)

I'd say reinforce the 'neck' of the turret, just making it look bulkier would work. A folding out front leg wouldn't hurt either, but isn't necessary with your design. Other than those two tweaks I can't think of anything else that might go well. Even then, the most awesome part of looking at artillery is probably zoomed out watching the shells travel and make their impact.

Hmmm, maybe this is not the right venue for this, but I have always thought it would be interesting if Nod had a upgrade for a Blue Tiberium warhead, for either a bomber, or for artillery, after all, blue Tiberium is unstable, and Nod are the masters of using tiberium, so I always thought they would find a way to use it in some devastating weapon or another, and on a mute but personal point, I think a rain of blue Tiberium artillery would be awesome.

You mentioned it had heavy recoil, so you may want to make the turret pillars holding the cannon a bit more beefy.

And I think someone else mentioned this already, but if you were to just post the picture and ask someone if it was a Nod or GDI unit, I think most people would think it would be GDI. To fix this, what I would do is look for straight lines and boxes, and find ways to make them curvy. For example the box on the front of the cannon would bit more fitting for nod if it was a cylinder with the front coming to a point, making is slightly claw-like.

That's my opinion anyways, take it for what you will and hope it's useful. Keep up the good work.

Wait till its Colored up I Think its a Fine Nod Artillery the Way it is.
In Tiberium Sun Their Artillery Wasn't Exactly all Curvy and Fancy was it?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Honestly, I thought tiberium sun was graphically atrocious. Not only were they trying to do something that had never really been done before (make a bunch of units out of voxels), but the units were too small to look anything but a pixelated mess (since they were voxels). When Red alert 2 came out, they had learned a lot and made things bigger, and took advantage of a more cartoony style.

My generalized impressions of the sides are:
Nod: Triangles, uneven curves (much like what you would find in a skeleton). Everything looks curved and pointy.
GDI: Boxes everywhere. Everything looks strong and blocky

The best examples of this are their original defenses of the Advanced guard tower and Obelisk of light. Incidentally, I don't think GDI's units suffered as much from being made out of little pixels.

My ultimate point is, why not have a coherent side style when there is nothing (like voxels and size) from keeping one from doing so? As it stands right now, I think more can be done with this model to make it better, and that's what Helge129 was asking for.
