TA:TW is quite possibly my favorite mod for any game. The most impressive part is probably the worldmap: to make such a detailed map of Middle-earth takes a lot of dedication, and the team deserves a lot of respect for that. Next is all the new units: the skins for both heroes and regular infantry are incredibly detailed, and the battles look as if you've stepped into the movies. The soundtrack from the movies certainly adds to that feel.

There are only a few issues I have with the mod. One is the AI's penchant for pulling vast armies out of nowhere, but I suppose that can be excused as balancing. The second is the long distances between settlements, meaning that moving an army or sending reinforcements can take five or more turns... although I suppose this can also be explained as a balance thing, to make you think twice before launching an atack on far-off territories. The third is that trade, which was such a critical part of the vanilla version, is all but useless in TA:TW, since it only applies to a small number of settlements.

Overall, despite a few flaws, this mod fully deserves a 10/10 rating. It's a mod I've enjoyed playing for the past few years, and will continue to enjoy for years to come.

Extremely rewarding and content rich. The amount of polish is absolutely staggering, and we can FINALLY enjoy enormous battles in the medieval 2 engine, unlike so many other popular mods for it.

I would say the best part of this mod is the sheer level of polish and pacing to the battles and campaign and tech trees, it really is an in depth and immersive experience. The worst, I'm afraid, is the B grade voice acting, among which are a ton of downright bad voice actors, namely for Mordor. But what can you do? Not like they could get christopher lee.

I am by no means a fan of LOTR, but this mod is A grade material. Best mod for a TW game I've played behind Darthmod for Empire.

absolutely brilliant! only problem is that some of the key cities are not the same as in the books/films, that would probably be asking alot but it would be a deffinate 10/10 if places like the Hornburg, Minas Tirish, Rivendel and Minus Morgul all like they should be :D

many thanks!

This is by far the best mod for a PC game I have ever come across.. Before this I always played an Emergency 4 mod called "Los Angeles Mod" It was very good and I would consider it an 8/10.. This game goes straight out of the window and deserves an 20/10!. Unfortunately I am only allowed to rate 10/10 maximum.
Since I was a boy, I did not see the Fellowship of The Ring or The Two Towers; however at school all the lads talked about it and pretended to play "Lord of the Rings" instead of toy soldiers and war. When the Return of The King came out I decided to watch it with my sister and her boyfriend and found it amazing and the BEST! film I have ever seen to date. I then on DVD was given by my parents the Fellowship of The Ring and The Two Towers and LOVED THEM TOO!. It was such a shame that Boromir died in the first film! :( and the siege on Helms deep in the second was STUNNING!.
Anyways, In this game, VERY REALISTIC! TW_King_Kong and the Third Age Team have created the WORLD MAP OF MIDDLE EARTH TO STUNNING PERFECTION!, You can fight anywhere, go anywhere you want, be anyone you want or most importantly DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!. I remember playing Lord of The Rings: The battle for Middle Earth when it came out and loved it!, Just liked I loved Rome Total War, and still do today(Having gotten through two copies already and need a third!).
You can play from the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood to the forces of Mordor or Dale. And there are currently 14 nations you can play!. Elf, man, dwarf,orc. who will you be?.The mapping/and graphics are VERY GOOD! as this game is created on Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms, and will ONLY WORK WITH THE EXPANSION PACK!. The skins of each model and character is so beautifully done, from the soldiers of Gondor, to the Orcs of Mordor to even the hobbits of the shire. This mod is a DEFINITELY FOR ALL LORD OF THE RINGS FANS!. I remember wishing that I could One day have the chance to play across all of Middle Earth and now I can!! ~Chris C James

It's hard not to give this one a 8.
It has almost everything you'd want from a LOTR mod in M2TW, and much more.
The only criticisms that i could give: As for right now, it lacks some really important plot parts from the earlier Third Age.
But Sub-Campaigns for each faction (or some) could definitely help on this subject.

Optically a true miracle, well done balancing and great use of the LotR lore; AI benefits in the campaing are unnecessary and annoying;
Orc-style settlements are ugly and almost undefendable due to their weak defences (no towers at all)
