I found when I press my desktop icon I get the same message as OP, but when I start in Steam it starts fine, but I can't launch any campaigns or battles.

I'm guessing your using the steam version that has combined kingdoms and the base game into one .exe. To solve the issue go to your game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Medieval II Total War) and create a duplicate of the 'medieval2.exe' then rename the duplicate 'Kingdoms.exe'.

Edit: It's no longer saying that the kingdoms.exe isn't working but it is saying that the program can't start because mss32.dll is missing from my computer and to reinstall.

Alright. I've copied the files from the main folder of medieval into the mod area and it's not stopping and demanding another file that isn't there. The problem now is that when I start the game up all it does is start up the default medevial2. But in the end it isn't demanding the kingdoms.exe or the mss32.dll or any other file. It just doesn't seem to run the mod. I will continue to tinker with the files and update as needed here.

Case closed. I didn't need to do as much work as I had done. Copying the kingdoms stuff and what not. I goofed up and threw the Third_Age_3 folder into Americas and didn't just rename Third as Americas. In the end the only problem was the three files that are needed that I found out myself that they needed to be converted into .exe files. Everything else was easy and as I remembered it (once I stopped goofing up of course).

I must have downloaded repeatedly TWTA 7 times for each file, everytime I do so it consistently comes up with download halted. eventually downloading and trying to install it all I then get is "cannot find file? cannot verify publisher". I aint new to modding but this has me stumped. any tips?

I've tried to run it but it comes up with a black screen and the ring loading icon, then it minimizes and won't open (no music playing)

Ok, I can get it to run, but as soon as I try to start a battle, it crashes saying Windows encountered an unspecific error or something along those lines

So when I download this mod, it does not go into a new folder marked Third_Age_3 modfile, it just goes into the "downloads" under "this pc". I put the three parts (I also don't know if there is supposed to be any more than just these three parts involved) into a file and mark it as "teutonic" and turn the regular teutonic into "Blah". When I start the game under teutonic it just starts the regular campaign, no teutonic nor the LotR mod. I do play it on steam, and am assuming that this is part of the problem. Looking at one of the earlier comments, I don't know what the "medieval2.exe" is supposed to be or where it is located as well as how it pertains to me being able to play the game or if it is at all relevant to my problem . . . I am not at all computer savvy I just love the Total War games.
