Darkness... My body hurts! Or is it my brain? The explosion! I remember it now. Maybe I'm in a coma? Or even worst, I may be already dead... Everything is so confusing... Zombies, monsters and ghosts from the past are filling my mind... Oh God, so many memories mixed with my dreams! I can't even distinguish them anymore. What if my entire life was just a nightmare? But it felt so real... Wait, what's that sweet voice? Sounds like a nurse! THAT is part of reality, I am sure. Now if I could just concentrate on this voice and try to wake up...
Presented as a horror mod, after the first few minutes you find out that it isn't scary at all. But my god is it fun to play. I haven't felled this much joy in playing an old shooter as I did when playing Half-Life 1.
Everything about it just feels right. The shooting, the zombies, the cheeky voice-overs. The level design is just amazing and the length of the mod is just staggering. The mod has a good re-playability value also for the fact that this game is officially co-op compatible with Sven co-op.
If your looking for a great adventure or just a good shooter to follow after your adventure with Half-Life, this mod (or should I say game) is perfect for you.
They Hunger starts out slowly then ends up where you least expect it. They Hunger hits you where you are weak and that is OK. At first I expected a simple shooting Headcrab Zombie style monsters, but there is more to it and the maps are designed perfectly for this genre of 1940's 1950's zombie horror. They hunger takes great advantage of the Hl1 engine and really changes the gameplay to make it a tottaly new expierience. The maps are a little difficult but thats another thing that keeps me playing. For a mod made in 1999 this is brilliant. The developers obviously put a lot of work into the models and maps. This is something you need to play.
