I have a idea, for the map bug which has not shown it self yet ( I have tested the map with magic and shooting arrows and using powers) we could divide the map into 2 or 3 worlds spaces for example we could split the map at moat cailin and make boundaries around the area preventing the player from continuing through the map just like normal ingame boundaries found in other games.and @ luxolo this mod will only be about westeros for the time being mainly due to the shear size of the map and the time it will take to make all the cities and such.

I understand and I understand obviously :).. The idea of the 2 continents was just an idea to go "around" this famous bug.. :D
Oh however I think that some free cities like Pentos or Bravoos, should be added in future.. They would be really interesting for the story-line.. However if you need help concerning stories and characters I can give you many informations.. Don't hesitate to ask me ;)

okay I read your comment and check if things like shooting arrows, activating spells, opening things, basic stuff like that. since from what I understand that is what breaks:( also if MERP (a LOTR TC for skyrim) could have been sent a C&D then Westeros isn't too safe either. as much as I want to say otherwise since being in Westeros would be SO AWESOME!! I watched the TV series in about 3-5 days total near the beginning of summer and that is what made me love Game of Thrones. also assuming WP doesn't run into any major problems it would be great if players could actually affect the story like show up at the wedding and save as many as possible:) (I was so close to crying at the wedding which is why I'd want to stop it) What would be VERY cool is if there was some way of programing AI to take over and do what that particular character would most likely do. Basically if only there was some way of making AI have a personality there would be a lot more possible outcomes. anyways check to make sure skyrim can support Westeros. Also if WP was found by some evil being that would want to shut it down would WP be able to survive underground? it would be smaller than a LOTR TC so it would be easier to make without the constant help from the community. MERP required new recruits to join while old team members would leave since it was just a massive project. but Westeros doesn't seem as large as Middle Earth and there are already many assets made for Westeros right? we just need to get permission to use them:)

Also as far as permissions wise and avoiding ending up like MERP I think we might be ok as long we suggest that if people like the mod then they should buy the tv serie's dvds or buy the books that way we would also be promoting HBO's and George R. Martin's products.

well so far except for some flickering in the map sometimes, skyrim's engine seems to support the map also if we can get permission from the mod authors that made all the GOT weapons and armors that would be great because all that would left to do would be story, cities, characters, and bugs and scripting. Also I am greatly considering the ability to change the story a little with player choices ,I think it would be epic to be able to choose kill everyone at the red wedding or choose to save everyone or save certain people.

but could you test if shooting arrows or using magic works throughout the map? since according to MEB's news article (which was likely written by some other MERP team member) it says, "After almost a year of searching for a way to bring back MERP, the people over at Dark Creations discovered a new Skyrim large world bug, one embedded in the hard coded areas of the game that no one yet has been able to fix. This bug causes activators (doors and chests), magic, ranged combat, and many other aspects to no longer function beyond a set area of a map (the central area between 64 and -64 cells along both the x and y axis). Basically, worlds much larger than Skyrim's are impossible. MERP's map is nearly ten times the size of Skyrim and the -64/64 area isn't even wide enough for Rohan to fit." We MUST be certain that Westeros could be made. If we don't test it then we will have the problem that MERP had when they tried to release the oblivion version. in the end the oblivion bugs caused them to switch to skyrim but as skyrim is pushed to it's limits it too is quite bug filled.

Yes, it seems a big problem..
And I would like to say something else.. The world of GoT it isn't so smaller compared with Lotr, I don't know if both of you have read the books, but as you should know, there are other 2 big continents and major islands in Got World map, so considering just Westeros you should move the mod around the war of the 5 kings, if you want to be coherent with the story-line.. Obviously is not a critic, but just an advice :D..
Another thing: if the project should restart, I think that you should consider the idea of the old team to release it in Installments, I mean for example, the first on the north, the second on the riverlands and so on.. What I can add is that I wish you all good lucks in your "crazy" idea to work on it :P
and Respect!

It would be cool if we could somehow make it completely around the bug (assuming it exists) implement sailing (there's already a mod on that somewhere on the nexus) and let players go to the other continent. (of course that would be something that would be done after most of Westeros would be completed. How I think we should do this is in stages just like Luxolo pointed out. Beyond the Wall seems simple to make so we should release that first. I'm sad that MERP got shut down before they could release a stable region and North of the Wall would at least allow players to run around killing Night Watchers, White Walkers, or Wildlings. Everything before the full mod should be background story. After the full mod gets done then the story that everyone knows would start. So the Night Watcher finds the corpses. He tells his friends. They get killed, he deserts(who wouldn't) etc. I only watched the TV series so that's what I base my understanding of the lore on. Anyways I think we should start in the far north and work our way south and once we finish Westeros we could consider adding the other continent.

Mmm actually what you propose is really interesting, because You must consider that between Westeros, (7 kingdoms), and Essos (9 Free cities + Dotrakhi sea) there is the ocean.. So in theory u could solve the problem if You have the water in the middle of the map. But even if this could be an idea, You have first to think that actually this map of westeros is already 9 times bigger than Skyrim, and in this imaginary world created by Martin Westeros is the most little.. However, I'm a kind of nerd of GoT, and I know really good the story-line, the geography and the characters. For me the idea to start in the far north is nice, but if the idea of this mod is to re-create completely the story of Game of Thrones, first of all you should read the books, because this universe is damn huge. And what you can see in tv-series is good, but not complete. A good idea would be to give to the player the possibility to take part in one of the 7 big families and to make him live the events throught the family he choose. XD... sorry for the poem.
