THE STORY
Based on the Chronicles of Riddick trilogy, we take you slightly into the future from the end of the third movie. It is now 30 years since Riddick sat on the throne and became the Necromonger leader. One of the first things he did was to stop the advance of the fleet into more territories and had them fall back to home space. Then he freed all who remained from the truely demolished worlds, Furyans being the first. Once news of this surfaced, other non-purified survivors began returning to their home systems to start the slow process of re-population. Riddick himself disappeared 15 years ago, his whereabouts and fate unknown.
Now the houses are stirring again.
Now the war drums are sounding again.
Where will you be when it all starts again?!

Some of the special things in the UnderVerse:

NEW VOICES - A FIRST IN FL MODDING
Using a mix of Computer Generated voices and Human Actors
we have been working on replacing all of the ingame Voices with ones created by us using TTS software and Human voices .. with the release of 2.25 we have replaced all of the original voices Except for Trent...Trent doesnt say anything server specific like commodities Factions base names things like that so were keeping him ... even though we did rename him to Johns :) This has never been done in a freelancer Mod before .. why ? because its a Huge ordeal .. it has taken over 5000 files and many more corrections to get the ingame Synch to be watchable ... Dwn and i have been working on these since the start so its taken a few years to get to this point .. but it gives us the bragging rights of being the first freelancer mod to ever get it done ... all chars in our Mod now speak our Ship names ,, commodities,, faction names and so on .. there are no more vanilla refrences left spoken in the mod.The only Original Voices Left ingame is Trent and we call him Johns a char from the Riddick movies.

To prevent short-cutting during fighting, you can't return to the Origin after leaving it

UnderVerse 2.28, available now at UnderVerse.us

We have a new type of Planet located inside our new 109th System. Introducing Planet Illumnion...
The Exterior, Interior and Base are made up of 154 individual parts, necessary to obtain solidity for flying 'inside' a structure.

This shows some of the 20 kilometers of cave inside the Planet.

And a quick fight in the cave...

Here is the Base located on the North Pole of the Planet.

This is the first late release I have had in 19 years of level and mod building, sorry for the delay. I had to overcome many Freelancer limitations to build this planet and interior cave system.
I figured out the multiple-point problems and then later the multiple-near-point problems. Getting the sur files to work (what gives a wall its solidity) was a nightmare but it is fairly solid now. And don't get me started on the parallel-sur-lag issue, heh.
Because of the aging Freelancer engine, the caves are necessarily simplistic in design. I wish I knew how to smooth out the lighting better but if I add more lights in the system then the Flare gun and other guns that emit light stop working.
I have many ideas for future builds of the UnderVerse, I hope you enjoy this one.

Release Notes:

New sounds and trail effects have been added to some of the engines.
Each of our 125 shipa now have customized fuses for sparks, smoke and flame.

Every ship now has a visual explosion with varying colors.

The updated universe maps (Dwn's printable one and Soup's pretty one) are now in the mod folder for quick reference.

Watch the great new intro movie made by [GLTC]Goultek!

The ability to log in with multiple user accounts (from the same computer) is now built into the mod.
Asteroid fields for commodity mining have been added to Strand, Grand Rift, Maelstrom, Faust, Callisto, Belesarius, Ganymede, Etna, Ukraine, Vesper, Wunderland and Switzerland.
All ship prices have been evened out to reflect the shield add-ons.

A mine launcher has been added to the Dart, Mantis Screamer, Hornet MKIII and Tranquilizer.
The mass has been increased on the four Light Fighters so they strafe smoother.
Docking Rings have been removed from all planets (except Crematoria, our prison planet). Now you can dock on a planet from any direction. Undocking exits at the original spot. This has slightly changed distances from planets before F3 will activate, you will have to fly closer to the larger planets before auto-docking. Speed docking is still enabled for all other locations.
NPC Battleship groups have been tweaked, they should no longer planet dive or de-spawn while engaged. I have limited them to a single group of 6 ships at a time now instead of two. Maybe now you will have a chance alone, heh.

Headlights have been added to all of the ships.
Select weapons now emit light as they project.

A new FLARE gun has been created for the mines...in case you are Afraid of the Dark. I know you are...

The distance you can visibly see ships has been reduced, this will help lower video lag. This has not changed the HUD ranges.
Over 300 new rumors have been created by [GLTC]Goultek, proofread by DirtyThree, thanks to you both! (You need nearly green reps to see them).
A fresh 2.28 Load screen prepped by [RIP]Soupman. Image by Charlie DiAngelo, awesome!
The four 'Start' rocks in the 'Fame or Shame' system are now clickable from a distance (for those of you tired of plowing into an angry hornets nest).
The 'Start' rocks in the 'Feudal Wars' system are now clickable from a distance (for those of you who just can't seem to find the rock) Congrats to Ironmoon and Jen, their win records have granted them honorary naming rights.

Two planets/bases in each Capitol have been converted or added to Faction-only status (much like the Merchant-only planets except no npcs outside).

Shrine to adoxa; original figure by [RIP]Blue for the Descent3 level Fusion-Reap. Tweaked and converted by [RIP]Fusion and [RIP]DwnUndr. Thanks to Gibbon for the glowmap tutorial. Click on the Infocard to read what it is all about.

Twelve new ships make their appearance in this release,

The Brutix Heavy Fighter, provided by [Aesir]Arch. This was created by his late girlfriend Chessa. Texture and HP by Darkblade. Sold at Valhalla, Zion.

The Viper MK7 Ultra Fighter, provided by [Dx]Red_Phoenix. Wireframe by Mark Davies. Adapted by [RIP]Fusion. Sold at Stratos, Solitude.

Five Faction-only Heavy Fighters created by [RIP]John Carter:
Asp - Merchant
Fist - Necromonger
Tempest - Elemental
Blade - Furyan
Hatchet - Rykengoll

Five Faction-only Battleships created by [RIP]John Carter:
Cobra - Merchant
Dragoon - Necromonger
Wildfire - Elemental
Sythe - Furyan
Pike - Rykengoll

More voice files have been added for all new ships, factions, systems, bases and commodities by [RIP]Soupman. We have probably replaced over 5,000 voices by now for Missions, Bartenders, Bribe Girls, Ships Computer, Docking Command and Male & Female Pilots.

The new system has restricted access (the first of several new systems coming). Only players who are flying one of the new Mine ships listed below can enter. There are three reasons I did this; 1) so no big-blast torpedoes are used (a single one of these could kill everyone in the mine, heh). 2) The mines (and future additions) are narrow, large ships would get stuck and I don't want to hear the whining. 3) The chase view has been lowered to ship level so your view doesn't go through the wall and disorient you when you scrape a wall.
Three existing ships have been converted to be Mine ships, they are all Heavy Fighters and each one steers differently:
Fang: 3 gun/missiles, 5 turrets, 17000 armor, 85 bots, 85 batts. mine, CM, CD
Reddog: 3 gun/missiles, 5 turrets, 16500 armor, 80 bots, 80 batts. mine, CM, CD
Moss: 3 gun/missiles, 5 turrets, 17500 armor, 90 bots, 90 batts. mine, CM, CD
You may use these ships in normal space if you wish, but only these three ships can enter the new system (FLAC protected). They come equipped with a special Mine Shield and a special Mine Thruster is available. Both are better than stock but not quite as good the ones sold by Merchants. I chose these particular ships because the sur profile is ideal for wall scraping without getting sardined.
Global constants have been drastically altered to give maximum advantage to this new type of mine flying, but you won't notice this in normal ships. The Mine shield gives a pleasant sound when you bump something, you can thank me now.
There are also three new Bases and a few new commodities and a new trade run (Phrogs, anyone?).

G-day all,
This is the second time I have used a quarter of my monthly download limit to download this mod and not been able to play it on LAN.
I have used reshack and get the LAN to get UV 2.23 to come up correctly.
Unfortunately whenever I create new characters and try UV,tried both the maru and the fighter, I am only able to fly around origin and no matter which JH I try I get kicked during the JH sequence.

I have the global walkaround patch installed and have successfully activated and played many other mods this way but so far trying to get UV to work on LAN, its just crash after crash and I remeber this is why I deleted the mod months ago.

Please only helpful comments.
Before anyone posts the usual play MP etc etc.
I loved Freelancer and played it for many years on a few mods.
I deffinately don't wish to play MP again, had too many bad experiences on other mods, which thoroughly destroyed my enjoyment of FL and ended in my leaving those mods and FL for years.

I came across a copy of FL earlier this year and decided I wanted to play FL again and have been working my way through those mods that work in SP,Open SP or LAN and find myself back at UnderVerse to try once again.

I do appreciate all the time and effort all the modders put into their mods and fully understand them wanting everyone to enjoy it online but as I say, I just want to try UV in LAN and hopefully regain my original enjoyement of playing FL alone.

Thank you for reading.
Cheers

I've played the Crossfire and Discovery mods before. I liked them, but I always felt like they were tacked on to the normal Freelancer game.

Crossfire has some very cool ships, but they are all over the place, and some of them have not been tested well with the mod. The Crossfire universe can be very time consuming to navigate, with long flights to mystery gates. It seemed like a bunch of systems designed by different people, some of them not very well, and then cobbled together into a mod.

The Discovery mod offers very few new ships... and even most of the "new" ships look just like stock ships from normal FL.

I like the UnderVerse better by comparison, and here's why.

The systems and the universe map are totally original. There's no New York or Tokyo systems here. It's a totally new place, with new wrecks, planets, etc.

The ships are original also. There's no ships from vanilla FL in this mod at all. The UnderVerse has a LOT of new ships, and some of them are very good.

Yes, you can only play online, but it's worth it. It's kinda nice to explore the systems instead of using FLDS to figure everything out.

Everything in the UnderVerse makes sense compared to everything else. It's got some beautiful systems to look at also, and some of the system and commodity names show a wry sense of humor.

What would I change about the UnderVerse?

There's a definite absence of new gun turrets. So far I've only found 3 custom guns, and I've explored the merchant alley pretty well.

I can't seem to find a level 10 fighter shield or a shield upgrade. There are truly awesome shields for a freighter, but not much for a heavy fighter.

But on the whole, the UnderVerse is a really good mod. It feels like a professionally developed product. Did I mention the music? This might sound trivial... but it's got some kick-a$$ custom music.

Thanks! Machete_Bug and I worked a lot to get some cool tracks. In the future we will keep adding music so that our Lead Designer can exchange tracks in and out as he chooses. We don't want anyone to get tired of the same ol' stuff eh? ;)

Keep exploring the Underverse. You may be surprised about what you'll find.

Dissapointing that there is no SP version! Not every single person wants to play multipayer 24/7 but would like to try a bit of single player to explore the mod! Be fair! :(
