This modification is based on John Carpenter's 1982 classic horror film, The Thing. The goal of this modification is to change the way FPS games are played today. Instead of going around shooting up the place you will have to play smart and out-wit your opponents. You will have to make decisions on who to trust or who you think might be "playing" the friend. If you are on the other side of the table as a "Thing" you will have to do your best and conceal your true identity. You will have to trick your enemies into thinking they can trust you and destroy them when you have the best opportunity.
The modification does not follow the events of the movie. Instead, it uses the setting, creature, and concept but with an entirely new cast of characters and no specific plot during games.

For Gameplay information or more information on the movie, visit the site.

New renders, new team!

News

Hello guys,
I finally have some new renders for all of you to enjoy. The Thing Mod has two new members and to go along with them, two new weapon renders! Check it out and welcome Terak (who modelled the Flamethrower) and Maruna (who modelled the Winchester). Both skins appear to be WIP so they will be improved with time. The Winchester is being worked on for the animations so hopefully you guys will see some movies of the Winchester in action.

I'm sure we can get a new team ready for this mod. Are you working on the open source?

So, you don't have a leader now..... How far did you get with this mod? I was planing a mod for The Thing type gameplay... Maybe I can help you. I used to mod the unreal engine (mapping wise and artwork). I can learn for the quake 3 engine. Do you have a coder? (thats the main issue if you change the gametype). I have ideas for a gametype. And I have seen The Thing mod done for Star Craft. The main issue you should expose is trust between players and teamwork.

My email is Patricoles@yahoo.com if you want help.

I personally heard its quite hard to make mods on the unreal 2004 engine, but if thats what you want to do. Than best of luck to you.

the quake community is still there, just its hidden... somewhere

the community only dies when no mods come out, and to be honest there aint many q3 mods that are totally new with concepts, most of em are just code changes like insta-gib.

im helping to rebuild the community with Sforever, should just see how it goes.

In the next few weeks... maybe even months, I may be considering an engine change for the mod. Instead of modding the old Quake III engine, I may consider a move to the Unreal Tournament 2004 engine. One reason would be the possibilities on the UT2K4 and also the community for Quake III doesn't seem very alive anymore and finding talent is hard for Quake III. However, this is just me thinking and this might not actually happen.
