The Sundering: Rise of the Witch King Soundtrack

The Sundering: Rise of the Witch King is a mod for Medieval 2: Kingdoms and based around the fantasy world of Games Workshop's Warhammer universe during the civil war between the Elves.

The mod's campaign opens with the Death of Bel Shanaar in -2751 IC. It features completely new units never before seen in a Medieval 2: Kingdoms mod, includen noble Griffon Riders, vile Hydras, and even the all powerful Dragon Princes of Caledor. Alongside these mystical creatures will be the Elves themselves, from the lowliest Elven Spear unit to the powerful Phoenix Guard, and from deranged Cultist to the Knights of Anlec.

Also included is a new strategic map of Ulthuan, the homeland of the Elves, including new models for Elven cities, generals, and monuments (such the Shrine of Asuryan). The campaign is an unscripted and epic journey through almost fifty years of the war that shattered the Elves forever, featuring new custom messages to fully immerse the player in the lore and culture of the Elves. Will you lead Nagarythe forward in it's bid to conquer Ulthuan and install Malekith as the new Phoenix King? Or will you lead one of the other nine Elven Kingdoms in their battle to protect their homelands? Or perhaps you will follow neither path and forge a new destiny for your people! The kingdom is yours to command, whether it be rich maritime Eataine or the martial powess of Caledor and its dragons. And while you forge a new empire for your people, you must be wary of the all corrupting influence of the Cults of Pleasure and Excess who would seek to undermine your position, though perhaps the Cults could be used to your own advantage if you play your cards right!

This is the most pivotal moment in Elven History, and one of the most destructive wars that the Warhammer universe has ever witnessed. You are now part of that history! Will you change that history for better or worse? That is for you to decide...

  3. Make sure the path is correct (C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\The_Sundering) or wherever you have installed your game.

i'm not getting it.... so the struggle for the old world is a different mod and has nothing to do with the rise of the witch king? and the rise of the witch king includes, how many factions?

They are two campaigns for the same mod.
Rise of the Witch King includes all the elven kingdoms
Struggle for the Old world includes most of the Warhammer Fantasy kingdoms.

Stupid question but will the gods of chaos get their own factions in the Struggle for the Old world campaign? :)

And forgive me for asking this, I'm just a fan boy, will Sylvania and the Chaos Dwarves get a faction in the future? :)

There is only one faction for Chaos, which is a combination of Beastmen, Daemons and Warriors of Chaos.
We have plans to include Vampire Counts as rebels, but not as full faction for the moment. This decision could change if we get more help.

How do you "play" or a better word, launch this mod?
I've installed in my mods folder in Medieval 2 TW folder and searching around the game launcher for an option...

I get this feeling that I should've installed a shortcut or something during the installation because nothing is showing up on the game launch of Medieval 2
Only vanilla, and the 4 expansions of kingdoms.

There should be a icon in your desktop. If it isn't you can launch the mod throught the /mods/The_Sundering/Executable.bat file

flakpalak Aug 15 2012 replied:

the problem is that, I've tried launching the mod through the .bat file in the folder.

It only leads me to the Medieval 2 Launcher and the play option doesn't give me the option to start the mod. I've only seen Teutonic, Vanilla, Americas and Britannia campaign.

I'll reinstall the mod again though, just in case.

actually, just figured out how to launch it. Just need to load up vanilla Medieval 2 except now it just crashes as soon as I launch it.

Yeah I'm getting the crash on launch as well, and I have other mods installed and working so this is not the first time I've done this, but this is the first time I've had this problem.

I've re-downloaded and installed the mod and followed the guide for a steam install (which basically just reminds you to install in the correct directory) so I'm fairly sure its not an issue with a corrupt file.

flakpalak Aug 16 2012 replied:

Okay, so I looked into the nature of the problem and apparently there's an issue with the descr_projectile when I checked out my M2TW.system log

"06:20:48.100 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/The_Sundering/data/descr_projectile.txt, at line 1929, column 31
Unrecognised entry"

So I booted up my good ol' Notepad++ went down to line 1929, column 31 and saw this

display aimed spin 4.0

and below the line of code above is

effect_only

Maybe I'm wrong but I get this feeling that the effect_only should go with line 1929 (display aimed spin 4.0), but I'm no coder so I'll just stop assuming here... and wait for an response.

Until then I guess I should reinstall(or re-download) again...
this is becoming reminiscent of STALKER Soup mod.
Whoo boy...

If running the bat file only leads you to the Medieval 2 Launcher then you have installed the mod wrongly.
Does this path exists in your installation?
\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\The_Sundering

You can't run the vanilla M2TW in order to play this mod.
The mod can only be executed running the Executable.bat in the directory above.

the path \SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\The_Sundering
doesn't exist. I have a steam version of Medieval 2 total war and I installed it in

/common/Medieval 2 Total War/Mods/

I did that, unless you're supposed to make a folder called The Sundering first THEN install it in there?

I'm guessing that, if installed correctly there's should be an option to launch the mod like the other Medieval 2 games?

Giving you option to choose which you want to launch.

Have you ever played a M2TW mod? There is not any option anywhere. You must run the Executable.bat inside the mod's folder.
