The Stanley Parable is an experimental narrative-driven first person game. It is an exploration of choice, freedom, storytelling and reality, all examined through the lens of what it means to play a video game.

You will make a choice that does not matter

You will follow a story that has no end

You will play a game you cannot win

...it's actually best if you don't know anything about it before you play it :D

TSP does not actually require Half Life 2 on PC, only the Source SDK which should download automatically when you start the game. On Mac, HL2 is required.

I read the author commentary, and it was very interesting.

I'm glad you got inspiration from Dear Esther and Radiator. I wish Radiator would update again though =/

Most intriguing. Its not very often that I run across something so simple it works to a far greater depth than I was expecting. Bravo ^_^

Very nice work. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can hopefully convince everyone I know to give it a shot. A counter for how many choices the player has made out of the max possible would be nice. It'd be great because I'm sure everyone will want to see all the endings and it'd be a good way to see how much progress you've made towards seeing them all.

Congrats on receiving so much recognition. lol, I was one of the first, if not the first, to play it and had no idea it would receive so much popularity across many big media boards. Hope to see more thrilling, deep work from you in the future! It's funny how everyone was giving you like 1s and 2s because you hadn't posted anything out of the gate and began to troll you and now that everyone has seen the masterpiece they were like, "Oh S***, I just realized I'm a bandwagoning troll" and bumped it back up. Once again, congrats.

Heh I was one of the first as well I believe. I saw this on the frontpage of Moddb and was bored so I tried it. Next thing I posted it on Facepunch which has helped it get lots of recognition as well. It just goes to show that you don't need fantastic looking maps to have a good mod, you just need to have fun and interesting gameplay.

it seems that i am the only one who doesn't like this map, (it's not a mod). I played both endings, and also did take the right door in the middle of the map, and again both options that are given there. So, i played it fully through. When i first read a lot of comments and reviews about this single small map i was really interested to see what people where talking about. What was it that made them all give this map a rating of nines and tens (9/10). But ones i played it i thought i missed something…
