The SoulKeeper is a 3rd/1st person melee combat action multiplayer game. Experience the heat of medieval-like combat, in gorgeous and detailed environments making use of the powerful Unreal Engine.

Feel the thrill of hunting down your opponents on the back of a mount of your choice (including dragons and horses).

The SoulKeeper will come loaded with approximately 6 different races, each one with 5 different classes (including wizards and fighters) each one with different weapons and special attributes. Every race will have its own environments, weapons, culture, all related one to the other in the ever-expanding SoulKeeper universe.

nice improvement over the first release. The mod is more polished and playable now. Only thing is I wish it would be possible to have better movement/animation/control for the horses although I doubt its possible with the way vehicles and stuff works for UT.

Yes you can play it with bots.. they won't react as intelligent as players but they will work
(In the current version they allready do exept with mounts, not sure there is any change to that)

But yes details are stunning and the gameplay is a nice change :)

SK is also in Gamestar a German magazine issue 01/2006 page 182, I can not scan it cause I don't have a scanner, but I read it and they love it! If you can find it would be cool to post it on your site and here.

Those are both judgement calls you've made.
I was just stating the experience I had with the mod.

Running a mod myself (and believe me I've had my fair share of nasty critics) , you've gotta learn to be pretty thick skinned.

That doesn't mean puffing up and acting officious, Don, it means really, just taking things more lightly when they're coming from anyone other than an official tester or member of your core dev team.

Yes, my opinion is just an opinion. It shouldn't be taken as fact.

SK is a very innovative and cool mod, and I'd like to see where it can go.
But from my experience I found myself having to overlook alot of the GOOD things SK had to offer in lieu of some rather nasty technicalities.

LIke I said, one of the reasons I didn't bother downloading the mod sooner is becuase of the quite enormous download size. This is just another thing to think about when you're modding. Most people simply will NOT bother with mods > 500 mb, and most less than that.

At 2gb uncompressed , SK is a mammoth. Try cutting it down and you could attract more fans.

Once again, thanks everyone for your comments, including those with negative comments. Comments of all sorts are welcome as everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Just on the development team's behalf I will say don't rush to judge certain decissions developers may have made on the way things got developed because apparently many of those criticizing us fail to also mention that there are custom added features, which are technically advanced and therefore modify the overall process of development and not just the game itself. Rushing to judge one's technical decissions especially in an offending way seems to be promoting a spirit of ill-meant competition rather than a spirit of friendly recomendation, constructive criticism and friendly contribution to the community.

FYI we have tested the game prior to releasing on a wide range of hardware, specifically:
1)processors: Athlon XP 1800+, Athlon XP 1900+, P4 2.5GHz, Athlon XP 3400+, Athlon XP 3500+
2)ram: 512MB, 1GB, 2GB
3)Graphics: GeForce Ti4200, GeForce Ti4600, Radeon 9700 All-In-Wonder, Radeon 9600 Mobility, Radeon 9700 Mobility, GeForce 6800 GT OC

We also playtested the game on our servers with people from all over the world (servers based in the US), with both broadband and modem connections and we got the following framerates, with average framerates on RaceMatch ranging from 40-60 FPS, 30-50FPS for Besieged (except for SKBM-BattleOfFatham) 30-50 FPS for Capture The Item, with a range of 5-12 players. Notably, Battle Of Fatham had sub 20 FPS, but we stated that Battle of Fatham is a huge and experimental map which is overloaded. Additionally we encountered bad framerates on SKDM-PrisonOfGevern, yet it was not occuring every time, therefore we have been having some difficulty replicating the problem and dealing with it prior to release. Other than that we have not encountered any major performance issuesm especially in terms of framerates.

We ran the game on clean installations of UT2004, v3355 (and yes it does matter as we have previously stated). We also discovered that many players have not carefully read our manual and recommendations for best performance, and came to us for technical support, we helped them step by step (which was simply a matter of following the manual instructions) and now are happy with the performance they have.

If you still feel the urge to express your opinion on technical, artistic, design or otherwise matters, please feel free to do so, we are welcoming it, but we do not appreciate attacks against us, especially when they are ill-meant. Those of you who are developers themselves, I believe understand this, and can easily agree to it.

Regardless, that is the last official statement I have to make regarding performance as well as direct attacks on the SK team's developers.

We thank you all once again for your input, and once again don't forget the Special Edition of SK is well under progress, and hopefully you will already be playing it before Christmas. Last but not least always check Thesoulkeeper.com for updates, as we are already preparing a large media update from the WIP for the Special Edition.

To put it another way...

I'd rather play a game that's ripping along at 60 + FPS, with so-so graphics but simple and entertaining gameplay than try to learn an innovative, complex , graphically sophisticated game when it's spluttering along at sub 20.

by the way, my computer is no piece of **** either.

I'm not the only one who's had performance issues.

If you know anything about occlusion in Unreal, and cull distances, you could probably guess that the mappers weren't thinking too hard about optimization.

By the way

having an idea that isnt a "WW2 mod or CS-Clone" does not make it excellent by default.

I mentioned that the mod's core gameplay idea, and art was fantastic. But when you've got technical problems, you've got technical problems. Lag, and choppy performance have brought down retail titles much bigger and more important than soulkeeper.

Keep that in mind.
