Frankly, it sounds like it is your first try at level design but fear not! I have seen much worse for a first try. From the images I can tell you carry a good part of what Half-Life level design is and this is quite a good start.

What you will need to improve is detailing levels and lighting. Of course, Half-Life barely had any detail besides a few barrels, pipes, electrical power boxes; but remember that Half-Life was released in 1998 so EVGA GeForce GTX Titan Z cards did not exist yet, computers could not do what computers do today.

For the lighting, my best advice on this would be to look at modern video games and to look at movies to see how the lighting was done.
Notice how bland the lighting is when there is nothing really important happening in both movies and/or video games. What I am trying to say is to get a proper understanding of colour theory. Blue lighting from more cold to stressful moments, yellow/orange from comfort to guiding the player (because of course, lighting is more than just an esthetic matter, it also guides the player in showing him what to do, especially in complex puzzles), green for sickness (usually used when you are trying to tell a tragic story that happened before you came here, like if there was a string of dead bodies caused by assassins). These are the main colours you should use in your levels. Of course, you could use some more fancy colours such as pink, which you show some clues, hidden spots, which could give more information to the player about the story or just use it as an esthetic colour.

My point here is that if you are able to bring a mod that goes above what Half-Life did in terms of detail and possibly gameplay, then this is a strong mod to look forward to.

I understand how frustrating things are when people do not give constructive criticism. If somebody is just unhelpful, remove the comment and move on, you do not need to care about them.

Hopefully, I should have helped you in developing your mod.
Have fun and good luck.

Thanks, these maps are not yet finished though they are just designs, we will go through and add as much detail as we can, also have to remember that most of the stuff you see now are just catwalks, hallways and small rooms. I am currently designing a new area that will have to have a lot more detail than this

Thank you for your detailed and helpful comment. I'll try to take this on board, and I'm glad you like what we've made so far.

To be honest I have trouble detailing levels. I can keep cramming more and more props in it but it just ends up looking cluttered and being difficult to navigate. I've got a few things down, like holes in the ceiling and floor, angles on the walls, and the odd decal, but after that anything I try to add just makes it look worse.

While this is on the Source engine, with a little bit of brush work, you can get amazing things. Check what I did here for an example Moddb.com

Looks really niece, it would be a good way to add detail to the hallways without cluttering them. Thanks

To be honest, I made this with Alien: Isolation in mind due to the fact that it has an incredible level of detail.

Black Mesa scientist; saying anything else would constitute a spoiler.

But David is supposed to be our protagonist or a person we have to find?, Because i don't understand the title.

A person you have to find, yes. You play as a business investor who happens to witness the Resonance Cascade. The objective of the mod is to find David, who can help you escape Black Mesa.
