From the creator of Slipstream: The Price of Freedom comes its spiritual successor. Completely rebuilt from the ground up, The Price of Freedom retools gameplay of the original mod to more closely match that of its inceptive roots. By simplifying Homeworld's sandbox, making elements more chaotic, and adding more aggressive variables, this mod functions less like a set piece and more like a real game.

Hello, again! It's been a long time since I've posted an update. But, I bring good news: The Price of Freedom for Homeworld: Remastered has been officially announced!

The Price of Freedom is set fifteen years after the end of Homeworld 2. The Hiigarans have spent their time rebuilding what was once a very prospective empire. But, it was not so easy as the Vaygr had taken the many strongholds once held under the domain of the Hiigarans. New technology born from Sajuuk has brought victory, but the equally capable Vaygr have tapped into research left over from the old Taiidan empire. With the speed of these new battles, retired ships have been called back into service refitted with progenitor weapons and modern drives. Raids of the Karos Graveyard are common and Progenitor relics have been activating at rates not seen for eons. The Hiigarans have earned back their freedom, but can they pay the price...

This mod represents a complete reboot of the idea that eventually became Slipstream: The Price of Freedom. Gone are the extreme colors and gray interface, replaced with much needed polish to the gameplay and weapon systems. Slipstream was a set piece, The Price of Freedom is a game.

The Price of Freedom is a partial port of Slipstream: The Price of Freedom to the Homeworld Remastered engine. The entire experience has been retooled from the ground up. This time around I'll be focusing more on gameplay experience rather than presentation. I've spent a decent bit of time tuning and testing for balance this time as well. The ultimate goal of The Price of Freedom is to revisit the Homeworld mechanics in a much more chaotic and fluid way. Faster, arena-style combat a la Unreal Tournament, with a few added power-ups to make gameplay interesting. The entire experience skews the Homeworld experience enough to create a much different environment.

I'll be posting updates as development goes on, and eventually get a release. The mod will be "done when it's done" just like Slipstream. Right now, I'm working with what I have to get a much better game. After that, I'll think about adding more content. Because of this release model, I'm going to use a different version system. Each release will have a Month/Year code instead of a version number. Right now, I don't want to give a certain date or time frame for the first release. Let's just call it "Soon", terrible as it is. Until then, stay tuned for updates!
