T3A:Online Is Here!

THE RETURN OF BFME ONLINE MULTIPLAYER IS NOW!

Hello everyone! Today is a big day for the BFME community.
It's been almost three years since EA shut down BFME's servers,
forcing the community to start using third party software to get their BFME multiplayer experience.
It was no longer possible to simply log into the game's online server and play.

Today, all of this will change.

We at The 3rd Age BFME community have been hard at work developing T3A:Online, a custom BFME online server, and a launcher (client) that will allow you to once again log into the game's online mode and play.
All you need to do is download and install the client, create an online account over at our forums, and you'll be all set to log into the servers.

To read more about T3A:Online, read our official announcement topic:
Forums.revora.net

To download the client and view instructions, visit our website:
Online.the3rdage.net

Happy playing!

You probably haven't installed 1.06 patch for BFME 2.

Are you guys going to make maps for parts of attica and Lacony?

Parts of Laconia, yes. Attica? Perhaps, in the future.

I don't want to be annoying or something, but playing BFME 2 gave me some odd ideas for this mod. :)

1. A thing I've Always found slightly annoying is that most of the maps in skirmishes are too open for realistic nature. Therefore I would suggest at least one map in which the two bases are being separated by a fast forest. So if you 'd like to expand your base or clear the path to your enemies camp, you would need to burn/chop a part of the forest down. I think it would be cool to have maps in which it is vital to adapt the surroundings to you instead of always the other way around.

2. Another idea I've had was while defending minas tirith. Archers constantly change their position and sometimes just leave the wall. That is the reason that I would suggest (When the time comes to work on the Athens faction) a wall update (like towers and catapults in the game) that spawns archers on the wall that are part of the Wall's defense. This would prevent your archers from leaving their posts and make sure that the wall is quarded all the time.

That's all for now. I hope I'm not consuming too much of your time with my questions and suggestions. Good luck with this project and other ones!!

1. In the past we have talked about doing more original concepts for maps. Probably not for this beta, but in the future, I don't see why not.

2. I think this might be pretty overpowered. We have talked about how we're going to tackle Athenian walls and archers, but we haven't decided on a strategy yet.

No problem at all, thank you for your continued interest!

Well, it depends on how you insert the defense system. For example, If you placed an entire batalaion (15 archers) on the wall it would be overpowered. You could of couse only make it possible to place one row of 5 archers on the wall (for one updated wallpiece)

Or (and this is just a theory, that may or may not be impossible to do) or the update itself could be an archersden from which an archer (or more) starts to patrol a piece of the wall or something like that.

It should be me thanking you for not leaving this project to die, but still working on it after all this time. It pleases me that you guys make so much effort to present this time period to a bigger audience.

That's an interesting thought. We could have each wall segment upgradable to contain two or three archers.

I'll bring it up internally, thanks for the great feedback!

Now that this mod is slowly become active again. I would like to give a few questions/ suggestions:

1. Wouldn't be cool to connect the powers more with gods?
for example, you could have active and passive spells as divine aid :
-rain spell or lightning strikes (zeus)
- a spell that causes the entire map to become visible (Athena)
- bonus for the farms (demeter)
- bonus for the fishingboats (poseidon)
- war frenzy (ares)
- sunbeam (helios)
...
2. Are you going to implement greek fire in naval warfare?
3. Will the athenians have civilian housing aswell?
4. Are you planning to replace the images of the gods in the power menu with more exciting (something from god of war perhaps)

4. Are you thinking about incorporating some other groups in the form of allies for spells or inns or something?

5. Are you going to implement bandits or wild animals (instead of goblin lair and war holes)?

6. My last question is a question I ask out of concern for this mod:

Is there anything a non-modder can do to help the progress?

I really hope this mod at least gets a second releas with the Athenian faction. this mod is so creative and unique that it would be a shame to end to soon. Good luck with the progress!!!!

1. We are going to redo the spellbook. There won't be any magical/mythical powers, but it will be more proactive than it is currently.
2. I don't know. Naval warfare is still being designed.
3. Yes.
4. I will create better button art, but nothing from God of War :P
5. Probably not.
6. Not much, I'm afraid.

The release we are currently working on will *not* include Athens. Instead, it will be an overhaul, redesign, and improvement of the Spartan faction.

Any chance that we will get an update a fully functioning Athens faction before the end of the summer?

It's awesome! Thank you really ^^ BTW i was thinking to some details. It's great how you managed to create something of un-related with 300 (i don't "dislike" too much the movies/comic, but they're something apart). But risking spite from some other fans, i would put in question the same presence of Leonidas as hero... it could not make more sense to put as main hero Archidamus II or some other kings or general of Sparta? Another pair of details: i've noticed how you've created a basic ensign with the "A" for Athenians, i can't recall if the Golden Age of Athenes had a specific sign/ensign apart the Athena's owl...

We've debated Leonidas' presence extensively in the past, but reached the conclusion that in this individual case, coolness precedes accuracy. It'd be easy enough to just change his name to Pleistarchus or Pleistoanax (or to one of Pleistarchus' uncles, more fittingly), but we prefer keeping this pop-culture touch stone for people who aren't history buffs ;)

Yeah, i understand, in this way it could attract more people. BTW I've noticed however in one of the older news that there are flags with the little owl

Mhm, the owl is represented in Athenian banners and shields.

Graphically this mod is really impressive, great models and skins.
The map Corinth also looks very good. Good object placement, nice map props, good texturing.
The background music is also very nice.
