Orb of Dilaaria v1.03
Jul 10, 2006 Full Version 1 commentBased on the Wolfenstein 3-D engine, but you will find that it has been greatly expanded to create a game that is in a class by itself while retaining...
The Land of the Seven Kingdoms was once the peaceful creation of Eilior, the Great Being, but when the dark lord Wersin disbanded the Nonacyclus and descended upon the world, the peace of the world was shattered. Eilior gave man the gift of the Orb. The Orb is the strength of mankind's protection against Wersin and enchants the weapons of the Army of the Seven Kingdoms.
The dark clouds of war covered the land and when the great battle had ended, Wersin was the new possessor of the Orb.
The Orb of Dilaaria is a Wolfenstein 3D/Spear of Destiny based TC that will bring a new look to the classic game. All graphics, sounds, and music will be changed and a few tricks and surprises will be tossed in to keep you on your toes...

I can't really say too much else other than another two months of testing and tweaking have passed. The day is getting closed, though, I promise. I've added another image that shows a nice forect landscape. I don't really think it's appropriate to flood the image gallery with a lot of screenshots that will probably be very similar since I'm trying not to give you any hints. I think a lot of what Orb has going for it is the overall feel of which the graphics play a part. Ringman and Majik Monkee have done a splendid job with the graphics, but I would rather you experience them in the game rather than ruin the surprise beforehand.

Thanks for the offer. However, I have enough beta testers for this game. It's getting down to the final stretch, so hopefully you'll be playing the released game within a couple months.
awsome mod, can't wait 'till its out!
--beta tester (wink wink nudge nudge)
I've heard HL2 is good, just haven't got the time to play it, so there's not much of a reason to buy it yet.
Yeah, the gap between Wolf3D and modern games is vast, to say the least. :)
Part of the thrill behind modding Wolf3D is seeing how far you can stretch the engine without breaking it. There's no way that the code can challenge a modern computer unless you mess up the 3D engine, which is always possible to do. I had some render problems when I took this screen shot: Moddb.com
The FPS would drop down to 30-40, but now the problem has been fixed and it stays a solid 70.
The fact that Wolf3D can now have parallaxing skies and multi-textured ceilings and floors whereas it had only a solid color before says something for the coding achievements that have been made for such an old game.
Plus it brings back memories, like you said. :)
Okay, just checked out your profile, and I must say you are working on plenty of mods at the moment, so i asumed that you were somewhat into modding by now. Now, as stated before, I know nothing about modding myself, and I fully uderstand how Wolf3d can be good pratice in creating mods, you know, learn the basics and all, but isnt the gab between modding for a 2D game and a game in full 3D pretty wide?
Now, I know im just plain slow, but could you please explain for me, now that Wolf3D takes things down to the pixel level, shouldnt it make it easier to work with, compared to all that polygon stuff which fill out modern 3d games? I still dont see how it could challenge a 21 centory comp..
Btw, if you havent played HL2 you are really missing out on something :)
Listen, I respect your work and all, but why put several months into creating a Wolf 3d mod..? With the same effords, I´d bet you could pull off a nice HL2, or something like that, mod based on the same concept.. Again, no offense, but wolf 3d is more than a decade old, and most gamers have moved on to real 3D...
By the way, how the hell can you experience FPS problems in a game like that?? Unless you are using and Amiga, or something like that Which I Doubt, you should have something like 10000 fps... Now, I know praticaly nothing about modding, but a few 2D creatures should not be a problem even for a low spec pc..
But, best of luck completing your mod. At least it brings back memmories :)
There sure is.

is there a wolfenstein 3d shareware like doom?
Creating Orb has been somewhat of a learning experience for me since I knew absolutely no C when I started and it has been worth it for that experience alone.
By the way, Wolf3D is capped at 70 FPS and Orb hasn't experience framerate problems for awhile now. Wolf3D is quite a bit different from newer games which rely on DirectX, OpenGL, and the video card to draw various constructs. Wolf3D takes things down to the pixel level.
I understand what you're saying, but I haven't even played HL2. Happy
I missed the new screenshots...they look awesome! Excellent work...looks like a whole new game...
I don't know... Helvete is looking great, too!
