Latest News: Sneak Peek into Myriads First development.
5 comments by Myriad on Feb 17th, 2009 digg this super bookmark Greetings all, this is Solar from The Myriad mod with our first sneak peek with a few in-game screenshots. Our reason to release this sneak peek came from a multitude of people asking to see something and after a long deliberation we've decided to release this small sneak peek. Not just to show that we ARE working, but to also wet anyone's pallet who have interest in this mod. Below are four work in progress shots of the very first playable level, this is part of our prologue story which will give the players a cliffhanger opening to the game. The Level is in its mid-infancy stages. still needing to be populated with more detail meshes, texture blending, and some tweaks to the cave mesh itself, so it's defiantly not final. We are in need of another concept artist and a 3D Modeler, so if you have the skills and would like to join up visit our forums (http://myriadgame.com/) and get into contact with either Marty (Reaper) or Stephen (Solar). Feel Free to critique them, leave comments or questions if you'd like, we welcome any opinions to the project and expect both positive and negative comments as the project runs it's course. Thanks!

Yeah I see the whole 'Cloverfield' inspiration in the mod description to. The basic plot outline features very minor changes to that of the movie. Doesn't make it a bad idea for a mod tho.
Anyhow, so far from what I've seen unless you are just working out the basic structure of the ingame cinematics, the level design needs alot of work. The apartment is just a rectangle with a few props thrown around, hardly convincing at all. Then it goes into a concrete hallway like this apartment is built in a jail cell or something.
You need to spice it up a bit, find a few pics of apartments on the net and replicate the layout to make it seem livable. The hallway should suit the style of the apartment and feature other doorways to make it seem like there is more to the game world then the necessary rooms.
With the jeep falling, besides it being slow, where the hell is the player? in a giant concrete and metal box? Did the monster just decide to drop it through the top for something to do? If you want it to be scary the building has to be a realistic environment, not 60 feet of empty space. If you wanted to shock the player and make it relevant to gameplay, the jeep could come crashing through the wall, destroy a bunch of props and land infront of the doorway, blocking the player. This could lead the player to have to exit through the break in the wall, and perhaps even catch a glimpse of the monster.
These are just some of the things I would pick at if this was a completed stage of release, i just hope you amp it up a bit and this could be a great mod.
With those beta test videos, those were more meant for hype rather than actual gameplay. They were used through a seperate engine and were mainly a promotional tool to show you what's in store. It's something that shouldn't be paid attention too as far as graphics, or layout go. What you see in the game is NOTHING at all like what we see in the Bravo demo or Grayshot. We have more advanced layouts developed and we're working to make it as eye catching and detailed as possible. Please pay no personal attention to the beta videos, as before mentioned, they are mainly for promotional purposes, nothing more.
I could be a mapper for this mod, no offense but that apartment in hammer is a little weird. I am moderately skilled- highly skilled with hammer and can make "decent" (described by colleagues ) maps. the stairs look like freaking cliffs.
Tracking mod luks shmexi =D
This will be an HL2 mod.
We haven't even tackled voice acting yet, we're nowhere near that point yet. But once we get there, I'll be sure to take your advice Mr. Otreum.
Thanks.
Its HL2, they were just using FPS creator.
Mod looks interesting. Tracking.
Is this hl1 or hl2? looks like half life 1.
As a suggestion with voice acting, try not to ACT so much, it's embarrassing to listen to.
When you do voice acting, you've gotta put yourself into the characters head, try to imagine what that character is thinking (they won't be thinking straight if they are shocked, which they most probably will be).
I can't really put it into words without an actual audio sample, but when I say to try not to ACT so much, I mean that you're over doing the voice acting.
I can tell that this mod is inspired by CloverField (the movie was unbareable to watch after about an hour (which is the time after that stupid party scene had finished (wasted hour of the movie IMO)), but in cloverfield the actors tended to sound and act like they would in real life, although they werent entirely convincing, they were still good enough to use as a base for how you should do your voice acting for the mod.
When the jeep fell in that one video.... i wouldnt gasp id be all like "HOLY SH*T, Where the hell did that come from?"
