1. OVERVIEW


Mass Effect: Unification is a total-conversion mod for Star Wars: Battlefront II that adds the Mass Effect era to Instant Action. As of v1.2 (R5), you can fight as the Systems Alliance, the Heretic Geth, the Collectors, or the Evolved Geth on three new custom maps, all of the stock maps, and all maps from the Sol Map Pack.

1.1. This mod currently features:

  • 4 new factions accumulating 25 new unit classes.
  • 9 new hero classes.
  • 3 new Mass Effect maps: Eden Prime, the Prothean Skyway, and Virmire.
  • support for all stock land maps.
  • support for all maps from the Sol Map Pack.
  • external support for a_speck_of_dust's Lotashi Z: X Province! (Note: The map must be installed in order for it to show up in the Instant Action roster.)
  • significantly improved versions of Conquest, 1-Flag CTF, and 2-Flag CTF.
  • 1 new game mode: Siege mode.
  • authentic sound effects and music accurate to the Mass Effect franchise.
  • a massive amount of specially hand-crafted assets specifically tailored for this mod.
  • an external app that can be used to tune various game parameters such as desired faction combination, HUD/shell style, difficulty, Shepard class, and more.

  • A brand new ME3-style HUD in R6!
  • Various patches and hotfixes that correct bugs and add small features.

OPEN BETA #3

Yep! That's right! Seeing as how it's Summer and I'm on break, I figured I'd publicly release what I've worked on during my past few seasonal two-week breaks. Among various other updates - such as improved rifle and pistol animations, and new CTF mechanics - you can finally test out the brand new custom HUD that I designed as well as Endor, which is finally supported! (special thanks to AQT for revamping the map) Not only that, but you can download and test them out right now in the open beta! I'm releasing another open beta because I need feedback, and seeing as how I got a decent amount of it from the previous open betas, I've decided to let you all give things a shot and help debug the mod! (A third time!)

To install the patch, view or download the build manifest by following the first link above; the build manifest contains everything you need to know about this build. As soon as you have the build manifest open, next to "File Path," follow the link "Patch Version (R5-R6) (Mediafire)" to download the R6 production patch setup file.

If you do decide to play the open beta, I implore you to not just pass up any bugs you encounter as things that "somebody else reported/will probably report," but instead take the 5-10 minutes to report the bugs. It's easy, it doesn't take very much time, and it will help improve the mod. Don't feel obligated to report things, but keep in mind the simple fact that the quality of the mod is largely based on the bugs that are and are not reported.

Soon, I hope. GTA Online and the Battlefield 4 multiplayer demo are both launching on Tuesday, and it'd be great to see the next patch in the release group. :-D

Hello. I am not really using my account to comment on mods, I am the kind of guy that downloads them, plays them and then just forgets to praise the author. But this mod is worth it. I played a lot of mods for a lot of games, and I am not lying now, the only reason I play some of my games are modifications to them. Dude, guys, authors of Mass Effect Unification, I hope you will read this. Continue working on this mod. I could only play as Geth and Alliance but it is still the best experience I have ever had! Wiping out enemies as Geth Juggernaut was an amazing thing! One thing I don't like is the amount of classes for Alliance but I guess it is intended. Keep working on this mod please. And keep releasing updates with new maps and characters, this is a lot of fun to play it!

Thanks for the support!

Most maps have random side variations between the Alliance versus the Geth and the Alliance versus the Collectors; the only custom map that has both variations is Eden Prime; almost all stock maps have both variations.

We are currently working on the 1.1 patch, which features a ton of changes, fixes, new content, etc. See the change log in the News section for more info.

To be honest, when I was playing this modification I really felt like in Mass Effect game! Marth, I guess you are the main developer, Let's say I can't read the change log, tell me what's the thing you are most expecting to see tested by the players? What's the thing that you love with all your hearth from the newest update?
I don't really know how you are developing this, and I probably never will, but if I were you I would stop working on map and give more attention to the hmmm... engine is the right word? It's like a coffee. Why do you want a well done coffee if you don't have a cup from Starbucks?

That's my goal. :)

The fun-factor is what I expect most to be tested; it is what matters most. As for my "favorite update," it would most definitely be the refurbished sides (the units and their weapons and powers). And as for working on the engine, sadly we do not have access to the engine's source, but I think I know what you mean - the flow of the gameplay is what is being focused on the most right now; the only updates in terms of maps are improvements upon the three current custom ones.

And that's the right decision! I know you don't have an access to the engine, it's not open source after all. But I have a few questions. The voice acting is truly amazing, but I'd love to see more of it, as Alliance Advisor is not telling almost anything through the entire game. Also, the Geth Destroyer rockets... I know they don't do absolutely nothing, but I love the way how they fly in random directions it looks so awesome!
I have played all Mass Effects, I have read one book (It's a shame I know it) and I've sank deep into the Multiplayer of the third one, so I can always give you advice if you need anything. I think of myself as and Expert when it comes to Mass Effect franchise. Also, The Collector's assassin Reaper Strike... I know it's king of what gives this unit special power, but I would get rid of it. You can have it at the beggining of the game and it's just too overpowered! Also, what about Scion? I bet he is not going to stay as Super Battle Droid?
One more thing. I am experiencing some... bugs? When I take someones health down to zero, I still need to shoot the entire clip into him to kill him, even though it doesn't show his health at all!
I am not going to talk about damage values too much as I think that there are no more overpowered classess... Maybe except Geth Prime but please do not nerf him, it's the best thing I have ever seen! I have a question. Are you extracting sounds from the original games? If no, then please do, if yes, then haha! I have already noticed that you do. And, one more thing, the last one this time! The sentence about 'keeping peace through chaos', I have no idea who of you designed it as it wasn't in the real game, but I absolutely love it! It adds so much to the climate of the game. How about using Legion voices for some of the Geth units?

re: Reaper Orbital Strike, I don't remember exactly how powerful it was in version 1.0, but I have certainly made changes to it, including reduction of the splash damage radius.

re: Scion, Correct - the unit model will eventually (and hopefully soon) be updated to be accurate to the games.

re: Health bug, This is more of one of the game's "under-supported" features; what you are experiencing is normal: most units have health and also recharging shields; the problem is there is no (easy) way to create any sort of delay for the shield recharge, so they are always doing so. This problem is still being looked into, but don't expect anything anytime soon.

re: Geth speaking phonetic languages, The heretic geth will only communicate through their network, but the "Allied Geth" (or whatever name we decided on) will communicate phonetically just like in ME3 MP.

As I said above, any further feedback is welcome and encouraged. :)

Hmmm fine then, although the health bug is really annoying but I can live with it. I'd actually love to be a part of your team just to take some credits for myself as this mod is the best that Mass-Effect fan can find out there.
What about adding different races from Mass Effect instead of just Alliance? But I don't mean creating the faction called Council Races. What I am thinking is that you can make a faction separate for each race - Turians, Quarians, Krogans and Asari, as they are the most known.
Are you by any chance able to import models from original games or do you have to create them all by yourself? What actually can you import from original games? Textures? Sounds?

Do you have any skills that we can utilize? We *could* use the models from the games, but that would be taking the easy and unprofessional and horribly inefficient road because we need to gain experience modeling and the models are way too high detail to use anyway. We *can* import models, animations, textures, and sounds, but we only actually import *some* sounds.

My skills to utilize? Nothing that will change your life I guess. I am a student in art school so I guess anything texture related, however I would need some help (showing how to get textures from the game etc). Basically anything related with computer graphics (not modelling, don't confuse it). I could also to some boring tasks like searching through thousands of sound files just to find certain ones, also I can make you some coffee in the meantime because I worked in the Starbucks. I am from Poland so don't hire me for anything 'text related' like editing the code (not that you would want me to). My english is on quite a high degree but still it's not my national language. Taking models from the game as a placeholders, and then create your own low-polygon models? My point is, if you will get some more experience in modelling than you already have, you will get hired for proper jobs and noone will continue this mod, this happened to a lot of mods I've been subscribing to... (Revamp Expansion for Supreme Commander 2). Also, after finishing all Mass Effect games plenty of times, I'd love to hear some music, sounds or models from the original game, just to feel nostalgic ;)
What else do you want to know about me? I have no idea about coding whatsoever, I tried modding at Minecraft but my friend did all the work and I just gave him ideas and made textures. If you could find a task for me, then I am more than eager to help you, as right now this is my favourite mod.

re: Taking models from the game, Our original character modeler actually did just that with creating a low-poly model using the extracted high-poly as a reference.
