Set in the 22nd century, Mass Effect, developed by BioWare Corporation, is a third-person, role-playing shooter that focuses on the story of Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine who must do everything possible to save the galaxy from the Reaper threat.

Mass Effect: Unification is a total-conversion mod that adds a new era to stock maps as well as new custom maps. As of v1.2 (R5), you can fight as the Systems Alliance, the Heretic Geth, the Collectors, or the Evolved Geth on Eden Prime, the Prothean Skyway, Virmire, most of the stock maps, and all maps from the Sol Map Pack.

On Thursday, October 2nd, I left for Vancouver, Canada to move into school-sponsored student housing, and today was my first class at the Art Institute of Vancouver. For those of you who don't know, I'm attending school there to receive my diploma in Game Art & Design. It's ranked #8 in the Princeton Review's top 25 Game Design schools in North America (full list), and during most of the program's 18 months, I'll be significantly less active on Gametoast and Mod DB, which means I will be mostly inactive in modding as well. "What does this mean for Mass Effect: Unification though :000000000," asked no one? Well, it means I'll be handing the project over to THEWULFMAN (until I graduate) who will mostly just push updates consisting of primarily art updates as well as the occasional hotfix. In the meantime, I'll be in the process of being taught by industry professionals how to write design documents, design levels, properly manage a team, and so on.

It's been a fun ride. Keelah se'lai.

No, this is a game that loads maps based on their creators' creative style and purpose and those maps can be played in a variety of modifiable modes. There just happen to be Star Wars locale involved in those maps and the sides played in the maps, or at least that's how the game was shipped. The game doesn't have any dedicated "universe"; it's completely dynamic and can be altered to whatever lengths any person so desires. Just because the game is called "Star Wars Battlefront II" doesn't mean that it *has* to have content from the Star Wars universe. If I want to use my talents and abilities to shove Mass Effect, my favorite universe out there, in a game that's easy to mod and develop for, then by God, I will!

Regardless of any of that, I'm developing the Sol Map Pack also, which contains Star Wars (and Mass Effect) sides and junk, so...

Thank you so much, that's exactly the point I'm trying to get across to him! We've already seen Rhen Var: Mountain X and Geonosis: Coca-Cola Ravine, and I think most of us have had enough of it! It's just all boring usually! Or at least the sides are, the maps are sometimes really well-designed.

There is no completion percentage, though I can tell you that the Systems Alliance is more-or-less complete, the Geth are nearing completion, as are the Collectors, the Eclipse is sorta close, and the Reaper Forces and Cerberus are a little close but not quite there yet. As far as maps go, Virmire and Eden Prime are almost done; all of the other maps are just really early in their development.

Now one of the most interesting aspects would be the space battles... Considering that you can obviously board Capital Ships in vanilla BF2, a cool feature would be boarding a Reaper and tearing it apart from within.

Ooo, that's actually a pretty interesting idea. :O I'll definitely have to look into that! ...though, how exactly would anyone manage to board one of those big guys? :S Hmm, maybe after damaging the vessel enough it could become disabled for a period of time before rehealing or something. I must think this through... TO THE BAT CAVE!

In theory, there must be a place from where the Oculi (Oculuses?) come from, sort of like a hangar perhaps? Considering that Reapers had some sort of occupancy spaces in them (Saren had Sovereign as a base-of-operations sort of thing), there must be a way inside.

Yeah, hahaha, but don't necessarily expect it in the first release unless I mysteriously receive several reaper models all rigged and everything with a hangar and whatnot. (If anyone is willing to make a couple for me, that'd be great. Keep in mind that if the models and textures meet or exceed my expectations, then the author will be added to the beta list. :) )
