Set in the 22nd century, Mass Effect, developed by BioWare Corporation, is a third-person, role-playing shooter that focuses on the story of Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine who must do everything possible to save the galaxy from the Reaper threat.

Mass Effect: Unification is a total-conversion mod that adds the Mass Effect era to Instant Action. As of v1.2 (R5), you can fight as the Systems Alliance, the Heretic Geth, the Collectors, or the Evolved Geth on three new custom maps, most of the stock maps, and all maps from the Sol Map Pack.

On Thursday, October 2nd, I left for Vancouver, Canada to move into school-sponsored student housing, and today was my first class at the Art Institute of Vancouver. For those of you who don't know, I'm attending school there to receive my diploma in Game Art & Design. It's ranked #8 in the Princeton Review's top 25 Game Design schools in North America (full list), and during most of the program's 18 months, I'll be significantly less active on Gametoast and Mod DB, which means I will be mostly inactive in modding as well. "What does this mean for Mass Effect: Unification though :000000000," asked no one? Well, it means I'll be handing the project over to THEWULFMAN (until I graduate) who will mostly just push updates consisting of primarily art updates as well as the occasional hotfix. In the meantime, I'll be in the process of being taught by industry professionals how to write design documents, design levels, properly manage a team, and so on.

It's been a fun ride. Keelah se'lai.

Fantastic mod! I have a bit of an issue though.

The mod feels too fast. As if everything is running 25-50% faster than it should, weapon fire rates, bot movements. The vanilla game never felt this fast and it makes the mod feel like a pseudo "bullet hell" game (Is this some direct method to force people into cover?).

Don't know if it's just me, everything else is solid!

As a request, find a way to slow things down a little bit, I spend a little more time in the class selection screen than I'd like.

The speed of everything is nearly identical to the Mass Effect games. And yes, people are supposed to take cover.

Guess I'm so used to the gameplay of the vanilla game that I thought that was what to expect.

I'll close that out with saying that this isn't a Mass Effect game you're basing from, cover isn't exactly a key factor in the game, I was expecting Battlefront II gameplay with Mass Effect weapons and abilities, and it's probably a good idea to reflect that a little in the mod.

By all means, encourage cover use, just don't design it into a corner by making it the *only* defensive option.

Another thing I picked up was weapon accuracy at range (I nitpick because I love), yes you're probably supposed to crouch to get real accuracy from automatics, but they lose accuracy too quickly to the point of being near-useless outside of "knife-fight" range (again, something that wasn't the case in vanilla). This is probably played into by my fire-rate complaint I made earlier.

And one last thing, the amount of weapons and abilities given to each class is a little overwhelming, while I respect your effort in replicating Mass Effect into this mod, I'm going to repeat what I'm likely going to end up saying a dozen times pretty soon.

Remember what game this mod is playing from.

Classes in the vanilla game usually had 2 primaries and 2 secondaries. 3 is a little difficult but not impossible to work with and 4 is just plain overwhelming, especially when you're desperately trying to pull a weapon that is loaded and not overheated.

And ease off the explosives a little bit, I'm sick of tumbling around from some dopey friendly's bad grenade toss.

I should probably stop here before I double the page's length with my rambling.

re: hostiles running around, heh, sadly I can only *sort of* replicate the cover systen in campaign missions, not online or Conquest etc. matches.

re: weapon accuracy, hmm, yeah, that's definitely something I'll have to look into, namely for the assault rifles.

re: class weapon amounts, I could probably get away with removing the Soldier's heavy pistol, but not really more than that.

re: explosives, heh, tell me about it... I really need to figure out the Cluster Grenades, otherwise I'll just have to remove or replace them.
