The Lord of the Rings - Total War Mod for Rome: Total War Announcement! news

The Lord of the Rings: Total War Version 2.0 is almost certain to be moving to the Alexander expansion, I say again to the Alexander expansion for Rome: Total War. If you have been watching our forum you might have noticed a ''poll'' on wheter or not to go for the Alexander expansion rather than the Barbarian Invasion expansion. This also means LOTR-TW version 2.0 will NOT require you to have Barbarian Invasion expansion. Alexander Total War can be purchased online through Sega's website, but if you're thinking of getting it just for this mod (and we're flattered and humbled if you do), we advise to wait until the mod's completion with hopes that ATW would have had a price drop then.

There was a unified cheer for Alexander not just because its cheaper, but cause of the unique things that can be done with this expansion. Some abilities not in RTW are given up for this, like unit formations and the swimming ability, to give you an even more incredible Lord of the Rings feeling. OK, I shouldnt dwindle around now, kinda stupid...............

You will actually be able to control the heroes of Middle-earth, you could be leading Boromir and Faramir into battle together. Think of it unique characters, once Eomer is dead you will never see him again. Another point is we will have an immortalitiy trait, Elven faction leaders will not die of old age giving the game more realism. If you know Alexander Total War you might now that there is a trigger that will destroy Macedon once Alexander is killed in battle. Marks are being raised if this cant be done in LOTR TW; however I'm not allowed to bring more of this up since its still being tested by a special man who will make this all possible for you: our awesome coder Bardo.

Another feature that is being implemented for LOTR-TW is the special generals for Mordor, in the form of the Nazgul. Unfortunately, fellbeasts are not feasible with RTW's engine so the Nazgul will lead elite mounted black armored warriors. The uniqueness of this faction and its Ringwraith lords is in the form of their immortality. There will at most be nine Nazgul at one time and if any of them dies, they will respawn again in Barad-dur, if you still hold that fortress, this feature would limit the number of Mordor's generals but they will always be a strong presence.
