Jedi Academy is a great Game but since it is from 2003, the graphics need an overhaul - for that the fan of the force may have the best gaming experience possible!


So what does this mod do?

This Mod aims to replace nearly all in-game textures (which are quite low res compared to the textures in games nowadays) with improved hi-rez textures faithful to the original style of the game and/or with custom textures all of 2 times (some even 8! times) the original size. It is perfectly safe and very easy to install or uninstall from your system because it will not alter the files in your installation folder directly.
More detailed instructions will be included in the release(s).


NOTE
: This mod will not improve meshes or models, it is merely a texture mod. Also the id tech 3 egine does not support normal-maps, so please don't request me doing those, it's not possible for me, only someone who knows how to compile maps and how to write shaders for this game can achieve a somehow normal-map-like effect by baking the normals into the lighting of the map, as i've read somewhere.


Why you no help??

I do not have the resources to test my mod on different systems apart from my gaming rig, so if someone would kindly help and post his system specs and the framerate or general performance when using my mod i can provide minimum spec info for other players. Now I don't think you need a strong pc for this to work fluently, but your graphics card should probably have 128 megs of ram. but this is just an assumption!

If there is someone who has experience with the id tech 3 engine and its modelling tools and would like to help and take this mod on a new level - please contact me, i'm quite positive on improving the models and meshes too which would then be a total cosmetic overhaul mod improving all graphics throughout the game.

This is my first mod project, all done on my own so far, so I hope people will like it and use it.


IMPORTANT!

The newest file is the complete Pack including all other ones released in the past I recommend downloading this instead of the seperate packs for the full experience. It is very big but recommended for download! DELETE ALL OTHER PACKS WHEN USING THE NEWEST ONE!!

I will upload each modded level as a single file aswell as combined in a mega-pack because that final release will probably take up a lot of space, 1 gig or more.

Info for fellow modders: Some raw Textures come from Mayang's free
Texture site at Mayang.com Every one used in the mod is either heavily altered, custom made or an altered version of the original textures. Of course I permit usage of all custom textures in any altered form in other packs and or mods as far as it is no-profit and combined with proper credit to Mayang (?) and me. :D And of course Raven for the original textures!

Renovations on Chandrilla have come to an end.

Update 0.3.1 is ready!

After months of hard work in RL, and working on the mod bit by bit, I just now finished the last parts of the Chandrilla "Rift" level retexture yesterday. As you may remember I posted a preview exactly three months ago which showed some two textures which I had already replaced an improved - this pack has come a long way since. The original rock-wall textures which had a acceptable resolution of 1024x1024 pixels but were stretched out way too much on the sides of the level didn't leave me any other choice than to replace them with, in terms of total pixels, a 64-times bigger version, 8192 by 8192 pixels that is. This increased the size of the texture pack quite enormously, the final size of this level being about 200 MB just as I predicted in the preview. Chandrilla will be released as version 0.3.1 adding up on the former release 0.3.

This is definitely the level with the most work spent on each texture. I combined the original designs with more detailed photo-sourced textures which improves greatly on the realism, especially when close to the textures, so when you play the game in first person view nothing is blurry or has a bad resolution any more - each texture is now sharp and crisp. I spent a lot of time improving the feel of the level by carefully picking similar real-world textures. This is always a workflow depending on personal taste, so this is really how i consider the level the most visually pleasing.

I hope you will feel the same about it!

In the end I forgot to include the promised Raven retexture in this pack i will upload it seperately, sorry guys!

well the textures can definitely be used to modify other games, but this includes reworking them, adding normalmaps (height information for realistic shadows on the textures) and other stuff. I'm currently working on this mod alone and it is a lot of work. BUT everybody is free to use the textures for other mods, of course giving proper credit to me and mayang.com, so actually yes it can be indirectly applied to other games. maybe if I am finished with this mod I will focus on another game retexture to freshen up graphics of a good game. ;)

While it sounds like this endeavor is tightly focused on supplying amazing textures, I hope that you're open to the suggestion of expanding it some to replace the default models with better ones.

If you're willing to pursue this path, please consider using as many of Toshi's and NeoMarz's phenomenal work as possible. The default Luke looked AWFUL to me, Toshi's Luke is superb in comparison.

If you're planning on overhauling multiplayer, please consider incorporating as much material from the Open Jedi Project Enhanced as possible, as the combat looks and FEELS like what we see from the films. If there's any way of bringing OJPE's combat system into SP, then go for it.

And please eliminate the HUD markers during Powerduels - if one can't keep track of who the two enemies are, then the player deserves to be chopped.

First of all thank you! I already had a look at the models, but none of them is downloadable any more everyx link is dead sadly. But I think your idea of adding better models is very good, and I will probably contact Toshi and NeoMarz and ask them for a reupload and permission to use their models. As for the OJPE, sadly I`m no scripter and I don't know how to imply changes to the games coding, so I'm sorry but I can not do that. maybe there's somebody else who want's to take on that task? We could release a "JKA Overhaul" with new models better combat and better textures as a big combined pack! that would be awesome. So if somebody want's to help and knows how to code stuff please contact me ;)
