These are the base scales. In some places they will be half size and other places they will be twice as tall. All the pillars have added depth beneath them too, so they extend far down.

Well....if there's a dwarf with height complex then...he is living in the wrong place xD

I don't mind criticism, how else am I supposed to develop? Ages ago, for S.E.E. I retextured the vanilla structures, but the repeating textures and the fact that there is only so much you can do with those objects was always an issue.

There is always room to improve, and you will be seeing those gold veins in the walls in my new Erebor structures.

Amazing guys !!! The future map for Erebor is going to be EPIC ! Can't wait to do the Battle of the Five armies and the Battle of Dale. Keep up the astonishing work

The map is designed to play out the events of Smaug's attack, Inside Information, The Battle of the Five Armies and the Battle of Dale (which happened during the War of the Ring).

Thanks Mathijs! Hehehe, it's a good thing I found a way to simplify painting the edge shine/wear instead of having to paint it all by hand. ;)

So, ah, aren't these giant? Assuming that basic elf or man is about 4/3 the size of a dwarf, wouldn't these be impossible to see?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+2 votes

Why would something giant be impossible to see?

This does happen in BfME. Some random things disappear if they are simply too large. It happens to Barad-dur sized objects, which are much larger than my objects. And the fact is, these pillars and walls and giant statues are very large and the camera will be close to them, the models used for path-able areas will be lost in the grand detail.

I always thought you could scale them up and down if that would turn to be the case, but I've never mapped anything so IDK

JoeFerris, that's a great question that might become an issue in some parts of the map. These assets are mountain-sized and I'd like to show you a mock-up of how I plan to use them.

I.imgur.com

I want to point out that the throne room causeway will be much larger, what you're seeing in this screenshot from WB is the size of eye-candy below the surface of the main playable map. The throne room causeway is the width of a battalion.

Some of the models will go transparent when the camera cuts through them, just like the Lothlorien trees in the original game. So yes, close up some will be impossible to see, but from a distance, they will all visible.

Thorin is standing on a bridge the player can use, Thrain is standing on a bridge the player cannot use.

This mockup, not anywhere in Erebor yet, shows what JoeFerris is talking about, one type of pillar is barely visible because it is so big, and in-game the closest one would have become translucent because it would obstruct the view of any soldiers behind it. There is a lot of work for me to do!

I'll always try to keep large objects out of the way in player areas, obstructing pillars should be behind the area or translucent.

Ah. All of that sounds great, and I think this will all work out just fine. This map, just like all the models and other maps, will make the original EA stuff look pathetic.
