The Hordes of Chaos Beta 8.1
Aug 30, 2005 Weapons Model 7 commentsThis is the 8.1 release of the Hordes of Chaos mod for Diablo II
The Hordes of Chaos (THOC) is a total conversion mod for Diablo II. Many aspects of the game are being changed including quests, skills, monsters, bosses, classes, NPCs, items, runes, cube recipes, and maps.
The storyline is as follows:
ACT I - The Goblin Armies
An army of goblinkind is amassing. You must blaze a trail through the throngs of monsters and find the warlords (Nah'Zul, Jehzerael, and Gruumsh) and destroy them before the goblin army marches upon civilization.
ACT II - The Wasteland
After taking out the warlords you find that the warlords have a master that brought them to power. You travel east to find this master. On the way there you find yourself in the city of Astalard. Many raids have recently taken place on the city and its visitors. You must find this group of attackers and bring them to justice before you can proceed east through the mountains.
ACT III - The Dark Forests
You have followed the trail of this Dark Master east to Spelwood Forest. Speaking with various civilians at the edge of the forest you find that the Dark Master is indeed the drow queen Durhanna. Find your way throught Spelwood Forest and find the entrance to the Underdark city of the drow.
ACT IV - Underdark
You have found your way to the Underdark, but now must search for city of the drow. Now find your way to the city to find the Mistress of Chaos, Durhanna.
ACT V - Siege
You have found and killed Durhanna, but her top general, Bursantas has already marched his army upon Firewindle Gate. You go to Firewindle Gate and go find the Lord of Chaos.

I am really interested in trying your mod, I downloaded it successfully but it requires d2mod plugin, you say you can get it at d2mods.com, but everytime I go there the operation times out (I use Mozilla Firefox). So is there any other place I can go to get the plugin?
That seems to have fixed my problems.
Sorry I was so thick-headed.
None of the files used in THoC6 are needed for THoC7. The new version uses the D2Mod system that is downloadable at www.d2mods.com.
After D2Mod is installed and THoC7 is installed in its own folder, create a shortcut with a target similar to this:
"C:\Program Files\Diablo II\Game.exe" -mod thoc
(change the path to point to your Diablo II folder)
and a start in that points to the THoC folder. No vb scripts are required.
I don't know if I am installing this incorrectly, or if there is some kind of problem with the distribution.
IF I completely remove the Beta 6 files, there are no launch (.vbs) scripts - so I do not appear to be able to run it.
If I copy the .VBS files from beta 6, beta 7 launches, but I see a lot of "not XLATED" messages, and I see a lot of 'Ith' or 'lth' for descriptions of creatures, instead of their names.
If I copy the 'missing' files from Beta 6, to Beta 7, I cannot launch the file. I get this error, as soon as I try to load an existing save, or after picking a new character, and attempting to launch the game:
Assertion Failure:
Location D2Common\DataTbls.cpp\line #2227
Expression: pbData
Beta 6 did not exhibit these behaviors on my system.
System Specs:
XP Pro SP2
Dual P4 3.2 Ghz
1Gb RAM
125Gb Hd
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP Video card
I really like this mod, and am very curious about the changes. Any thoughts?
Any ideas?
Well seeing as I didn't even get out of act1, I suppose I won't see alot of the changes :(
Yes much has changed including the solution to the drider crash bug and the spell scrolls not working. I'm hoping that fans of this mod will be very pleased with this next release.
I was playing this a few weeks back, hope alot has changed in this new release :)
