The Great War is a modification for Company of Heroes meant to bring the war two decades earlier. This mod focuses on the later years of the First World War. Currently the two teams will be the British Expeditionary Force against the German Empire, however with time the team will try and bring some more nations in, such as France and Austria-Hungary. This mod will focus or realism but keep the game balanced enough to make it enjoyable. Things to look for in the mod are the famous artillery strikes and the infamous gas attacks. Trenches will provide vital cover for infantry while tanks will roll over the battlefield and instil fear into the enemy troops.

These are M1916 steel helmets; they did not have spikes.

You're mixing them up with the pre-war Pickelhaube, which were made of lacquered boiled leather with a brass spike. These were replaced by the aforementioned steel helmets in 1916.

As the mod takes place in 1918, long after the Pickelhaube had disappeared from frontline service, the Germans are all wearing historically-correct steel helmets.

That's the hose of a "Wex" (Wechselapparat) flamethrower. You can see the donut-shaped fuel container on his back.

Also that is the wand of the Wex. Early Flammenwerfer M.1914-15 used that wand too, until they got the pre-WWII Flammenwerfer 35 type wand. The Wex kept that wand and the fuel compartment eventualy got adopted for the Brit No.2 Portable Flamethrower
