The Human Revolution mod adds five new races to Distant Worlds and edits one. The standard human race is edited to reflect the background story of this mod, and five more interesting races are also added. This was done because I personally found the human race in DW quite plain and boring. It did not provide for good gameplay, in my opinion, and as an AI adversary seldom proposed any resistance either. That is about to change - the Humans have got company.

With the release of Distant Worlds Universe, the Human Revolution mod gets an update as well. There are masses of new modding functions in Universe, and some of them have been made use of in the update. Among other things, you can now play any of the Human factions in a Milky Way kind of galaxy where the main human faction starts on planet Earth in a copy of our own Solar System. There's also a new faction, the Perfect Humans to play with or against.

As far as components and new resources, I haven't implemented much in the mod. The mod was designed to be a platform for my own Distant Worlds let's playing on YouTube, and as such, I wanted to keep the tech tree close to vanilla for those viewers who don't use the mod. Some new resources are to be found and used though, although, I've kept them at a minimum.

The mod still retains its unique "human" look with the newslady and new shipsets. All the factions have unique shipsets, characters and playstyles reflecting the human conquest of space. Also, all the factions now have their own galactopedia texts where you can find out more about them as well.

I was on the Universe beta team and used my mod for experimentation. I cut some bad parts out before release, like experiments on resources, tech tree and compontents. Try it out and have fun!

Yep. To intall, throw the Human Revolution folder in your Matrix Games/Distant Worlds/customization folder and tick the mod in the Themes list from the main game menu.

Nice work. I haven't played distant worlds -YET- (oh i will very very soon) but how difficult is it to create your own ships? I'm a graphic designer and from what I can tell, it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to create your own shipset... just time consuming maybe.

I am not that familiar with the game that much yet but am very interested in making some custom ships.

Custom ships are in high demand and very much appreciated by modders for this game. They are 2D sprites, actually, with special functions inserted to show where the condensation trails and lights show up in-game. Go check out the Matrix forum, and especially its modding section to get in contact with more people. There are a couple of talented ship-designers there, who can help you with more information. This mod uses Kalthaniell's ship designs. I'd be very much interested in seeing your work myself! :) Matrixgames.com

Thank you very much! I could tell they were 2D sprites, which made me interesting in the first place. I said I was a graphic designer and so 2D = possible, but any games that involve 3D models are out of my league as of yet. So this could be awesome!

I hope to see your work in the future. You can publish your shipsets at the Matrix forums too. I bet a lot of modders will pick them up and add them in-game in all sorts of mods. Good luck! :)

Thanks. Yep. I wanted to make them very different, although I wanted some stuff to tie them all together as humans too. I'm going to add more factions in the future, but I want to make sure these first ones are balanced for the game first. Shadows is on its way, so there will be a substantial update then as well.

it would be awesome to let each race have a sort of subfactions. Like you can pick the old race and be quite generic, but have subfactions in each race which focus on certain playstyles. For instance the Sluken are generally extremely hostile. Add a more "pacifist" Sluken to it, who opt to use trade and diplomacy to expand their empire instead of warfare and genocide. And then on the other side a Sluken subfaction having in general severe penalties across the board but having access to the superlaser, turning them into a meaningless race early-game but once having the superlaser at their disposal they become extremely dangerous. Kinda like a meaningless empire suddenly turning into a galactic menace. Would sound quite awesome.

i did recall a bit myself and there shouldn't be any race limit as of Legends. Did some modding in that myself.
