This is a Melee mod for STALKER.
I know it doesn't sound like much from that, but imagine if you will a whole world that has collapsed. A world where monsters and mayhem are the keywords and there are no guns. You want to kill something, you have to get up close and kill it.
You also have to survive.
There is no power, no supermarket with fresh food. You have to kill and eat, or find food elsewhere.
Based on the story "The Diary", which follows the life of one man beyond the riots and end of civilisation, beyond the chaos and aftermath of the infected that live only to slaughter and beyond the hell that is the Tenax.
As another survivor, you have to escape. The mod aims to allow the players to join up with other survivors, or the cult. You can hi-jack cars to get around or take to the roads on foot. You can face off against the many monsters in the story or try to avoid them all. How you play it will be down to you but there are 8 different ways of ending the game (death not being one of them).
The mod plans to have 20+ melee weapons with various strengths and accompanying strategies for each weapon. If you use a weapon for too long, it will break and leave you helpless against the claws and teeth of the monsters. Do you go for the larger weapons with more damage? Or many of the smaller ones?
It is also planned to incorporate a multiplayer element that includes Deathmatch, Co-operative, Last Man Standing, Kill the Narrator and Flood.

With the upcoming release of STALKER due for Q1 2007, we've been busy churning out background information for the mod. As such we've been developing the mod storyline for singleplayer and we've gotten a very good artist to share the first concept artwork for monsters that will be in the mod.

I'm looking forward to this mod; it'll be combining one of my favoriet worlds with one of my favoriet games.
Which reminds me...can anyone provide me of a link to the Diary forums?I've been meaning to read some stuff there and appearantly, I never bookmarked it.

Also I have to say that, unfortunatly, The Diary Mod has been canceled because Stalker wasn't what we'd all expected. Plus we're all just too old for these kinds of things now and have more important things to worry about, like work and college and paying the rent on time.
The Diary continues to exist in text form though, so there's always that.
Perhaps some day somebody will make something of it on another medium.
There will be NO guns in this mod at all. No pistols, no flares, no hunting guns. None.
That is not to say there will not be projectile based weapons though.
Sounds great :D! Will there be RPG with experience-points and such?
Please add som old hunting guns and the like.
I think a few guns would fit in with the post-apocalyptic theme of this mod. They should however be very few and very, very far between with ammunition almost as rare. Only in the hands of the few powerful raider bosses and village chieftains. You know, Road Warrior style. I'd play this mod regardless because I'm a big fan of the post-apoc genre but I'm also a big fan of guns and a few of them would be an even more incentive.
Please sir, I implore you, I beseech you, put a few guns in this game. Zip guns, revolvers, a blackpowder musket, anything! Hell, I made this account just to ask you to do this. I really love the idea behind this mod and I'd like to see it even better.
Also, do you need any writing staff? I could help out with that in my spare time, should I be necessary. I'm not much good at mapping, designing or scripting, but I can write. I'd also gladly, ****, more than gladly, play test.

I am pretty sure Bodster would sooner kill himself (and most of the known world) before he allows the inclusion of guns in The Diary, ever.
Hi guys, i saw ur forums and read the survivors and fanatics RPGs...
And if what u are planning to do, is the same...damn, then this is gonna be too damn great.
The game engine you guys choosed is perfect for the diary, Stalker X-ray engine has great Day/Night transitions and can make great post apocalyptic theme like u guys use on ur rpg.
What i am really hoping for is the CooP mode, it would be really cool to play coop via internet or lan with my friends in a big lan partie :D.
I just wish i have some skills to help u guys out...but i dont have any...so i want to bring u the best wishes and luck.
Dont let down this mod...i am already watching it and plus it would be a real lame if u never finished this on.

Those images are the interpretations of the descriptions given to our concept artist, and as such are his versions of the creatures within The Diary story.
I can also assure you that The Diary is not a Resident Evil clone. Whilst it does include zombies and powerfull creatures, its main objective is your own survival and eventual escape of the city not the collapse of a global corporation.
