The Dark Pastime is a Single Player modification (or add-on) for the Jedi Academy video game. Being in development for several years, the project is now at its final stage.

The story takes place in 17 ABY, several years after the events with Tavion and her Sith cult. The Jedi Academy became a large organization of peace-keepers, loyal to the New Republic. Former Galactic Empire is weakened, but still has enough forces to fight both the Republic and the Jedi. However they tried to remain silent for some time until the accident in the system of Goura occured... But is it the Empire to blame for the deaths of dozens of soldiers? Or is it someone else trying to make everyone to believe this story?

Mon Mothma asked the Jedi for help - one more time - to find out what really happened with the Republic base on Goura and investigate any possible Imperial activity in that sector. So it happens that Kyle Katarn, an agent of the New Republic and now a Jedi Knight decides to chase the Imperial dreadnaught, that was believed to have been responsible for the attack.

The Imperial captain manages to leave his ship and flee to Ord Mantell, where then he is killed by a mysterious assassin. It seems somebody is trying to hatch a plot against the Jedi and the Republic itself. And Kyle Katarn is the only one who can find out the true identity of the evil enjoying torturing the Galaxy this time...

Before we show you the latest developments on our modification, I would like to thank all of our friends and fans both for their interest in the project and continuous support of our efforts. As I mentioned before, the Dark Pastime is a collective work of many people in different aspects. Our project is not just about maps and wielding a lightsaber against evil Empire.

We've tried to keep you informed to certain extent via our project threads on jkhub.org, publishing minor news and previews there. We also received a lot of messages regarding the release and most surprisingly - about our new Kyle Katarn model. I guess, Olgo feels flattered, as this one was both
her work and initiative to add the original (Jason Court) appearance.

As of late we added a few new characters and new models to the story. On the forums I mentioned, that I started creating lots of new objects for different planets. This is done so that each place, city or forest would have their own unique atmosphere. Surely certain elements would remain the same everywhere, but only the essentials perhaps. Below are the examples of some of the objects that I added to the game. It's notable, that most of them have 3-4 variants to enhance diversity in design.

The same applies to characters. Currently we have over two hundred models in the mod, with each having several variations (skins), sometimes from three up to ten and even more. This makes it possible to add as many characters to the plot as we need. Surely some NPCs are seen throughout the game (with similar clothes and faces), but for the most part all have different appearance.
Below is the model of a mining or labor droid, with different classes of it. Having been created about thirty years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, these machines are used by yet unknown owner of an old factory on Ord Mantell. His motives on acquiring the abandoned building are unclear as well as on why he would attain so many obsolete units at once.

As you might know from our previous news the Empire plays a significant role in the mod. It differs from what we see in Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy though. The second mission of the game is fully Imperial and takes place in one of the major Imperial cities on the planet of Dvorn (the screenshots were published earlier).

It was not long time ago, that we decided to release DP in parts. The first chapter of adventures is almost ready and includes two planets, including the above mentioned Dvorn. I am not saying the exact date right now, as not to spoil all the plans of ours. But we do want to release Chapter I for you to try. Soon.

It was stated before, that the Dark Pastime makes a lot of references to other Star Wars stories. Among the already known things are the appearance of Dantooine and Jedi Enclave, Selkath species from KOTOR, Imperial Star Destroyers from Original Trilogy and many more. We wouldn't like to reveal all of them, but I made a minor article on this aspect (besides, much of Star Wars is labeled Legends now, so it might be only fair to make a nod towards them). If you have favourite Star Wars comics, book or video game, check this list in Features section right away - it might surprise you.

Next time: Starship models, New Adversaries, DP Chapter 1 Release Date.

A question, as your team seems to be Russian (apologies if I got it wrong), will there also be an English version or is that the initial goal of your project.

The work you and your team have done so far is very impressive and I really like the looks of the alien cities.

The New Republic/Jedi Knight games is one of my favorite eras in the SW setting.

Yes, our team is Russian, and the voicing will be in Russian (except for aliens :) ). However we create both Russian and English subtitles. A friend of ours is thinking of creating a German version as well (no voicing, sorry), and we wanted to make a Spanish one as well. I don't speak French, but it would be great to create subtitles for our French Friends and Fans too. :)

Subtitles isn't the only thing to be translated - menus and datapads will be in different languages as well.

I'm glad You like the locations we've shown so far. We try to make them as vivid as possible. They do have Star Wars feeling, but that's yet to be seen by the Fans.

I also like the New Republic/Jedi Knight series. I don't know why. But it has something unique in it just like KOTOR or the movies.

Answers
1) Это интересный вопрос, который мы пытаемся решить. В MOTS была такая фича. В JA это сделать сложнее, поскольку в самой игре это не предусмотрено. Пока мы добились любопытных результатов на этом направлении, но все равно не то.
An interesting question, that we try to resolve. In MOTS there was smth like that (disarmed enemies still attack), but in JA it's more complicated to make such a thing, as there is no such option in the game engine. But we achieved some peculiar results in this direction, but it's still "not it".
2) Да, будут и другие враги вроде AT-ST.
Yes, there are enemies like AT-ST.
3) Трудно сказать. Если что-то можно было изменить без "расковыривания" игры, то мы делали это.
Difficult to say. If smth can be changed without "scratching" the game, we do it.

As I told You before (and others, too ;) ) - any material related to the Dark Pastime Project will be available to mappers and modellers alike only AFTER the release of DP.
We're currently working on Lights in the maps.

K, thanks. Shame this mod isn't very popular. Because it should be. :D Maybe you should advertise a lil' bit more, eh? :P

Your mod is excellent! I would rate it 19/20. ;)

Someone form the Dark Pastime mod said the JKB team could use their models. And since they are magnificent, we thought we would. :) So, could you please send them to Jk4.atlanteangaming.com ? Thank you anyway.
